Wow, really?? Or giving them 50% for turning in NO work? Geez and we think we’re actually doing kids favors and helping them prepare for their futures! Public Education system is SO flawed

In-season lifting is the single most valuable tool in physical development. Ceasing all training when season begins is why your players aren’t physically capable of more year after year.

@leetaft Totally agree! Life lessons and values such as respect for others over oneself and commitment aren’t stressed anymore by too many parents.

Bigger than us. He made us realize we’re not the only ones in the picture. Our family decisions have impact on the others on the team. Sorry for rambling but thought it important you understand why I’m a team first coach, and why I taught my own children value in the sacrifice🙏

Please read all thread- fairly long… just posted on parents taking their children on vacation in middle of HS varsity team season. Pretty HOT topic. Absolutely love the passion/varying perspectives on this. I never get offended or disappointed when people have other opinions…

A local middle school announced that they have canceled their 8th grade class trip to the water park because of the entire class’s poor behavior, then detailed a specific lunchtime incident where the majority of students in the class were disrespectful to staff. 😳

I heard a U13 select volleyball coach yelling at his team while the parents listened in. “You all need to take this seriously if you want to play collegiate volleyball. Stop screwing around with other sports. Focus just on volleyball year around.” The girls were all about 5’3 being sold a lie. If this sounds familiar, pull your kid from that team asap. Just watch the @NFL draft. Even the greats played multiple sports. Life is too short. Play multiple sports. Why? Before you know it, it’s all over. Even for those that make it to D1 or pros. The most common comment I get from alumni that didn’t play football while in high school is “I regret not playing football for you.” No regrets. Play multiple sports!!

Why did I go to HS games as a college coach? It was a fantastic opportunity for me to go in street clothes to catch a player and watch them play in their natural environment. Their body language with their coaches, their interaction with teammates that were older or younger, the trainer, the JV team, and if they stayed to help pick up the equipment. Did they lead on the field, were they respectful to the officials and opponents, and what did their parents act like in the stands. How did people in the stands support that player. Were they positive or negative. Club soccer showed me their quality as a player. HS showed me their character. Showcases in front of a row of college coaches will mask a players true colors at times. Everyone is on their best behavior. I wanted to see a player when things got messy. Old school coach I guess.

Not entirely opposed to this...

@novahoopsCom If you’re coaching a high school basketball game at any level and the opposing team holds the ball for more than 1 minute without a shot attempt, you should be able to tackle the opposing head coach.

I fully understand club sports and the purpose behind them. My own kids play and will continue to play in these types of programs. My issues is this: Please stop making kids feel guilty for trying to be a valued member of their high school programs in a different sport! What I am sick of, is clubs expect high school teams to always work around their big events, but if the club is asked to work around the HS program, the kids are threatened with no longer being on that team, or even better, told they can’t be on a certain team next year if they miss a particular tournament. There is value in club sports, especially as far as individual skills and competition level. There are also lessons in HS sports that cannot be taught in club, like playing in front of 2,000 fans in an emotional environment, with your towns name across your chest. There is value in learning how to perform in those types of situations and the pressure that comes with it! Student sections rushing the floor after huge wins are memories kids deserve to share as well! Just tired of the guilt trips and ultimatums that are forced on these kids as their careers continue. We are all in the kid business and must make them a priority physically and mentally. We must continue to find ways to work together in this arena , while promoting the idea that kids can play multiple sports if they choose to, and be encouraged by both sides to do so!

Pat Summitt said, “Winning is fun... Sure. But winning is not the point. Wanting to win is the point. Not giving up is the point. Never letting up is the point. Never being satisfied with what you've done is the point." Your character is what you do. Good character isn't about perfection, it's choosing to live your life with integrity, responsibility, and self-discipline. You aren't defined by your victories or defeats, but by your attitude and character in the face of adversity. You demonstrate it through your actions, decisions, and how you treat people. 6 Choices to Be a Person of Character 👇 Choose to Live Your Values - Align your actions and behaviors with your core beliefs and principles. Living your values means making choices that reflect what truly matters to you. It brings authenticity, integrity, and a sense of purpose to your your life. This consistency between belief and behavior builds trust and respect from others, and provides a guiding light for your decisions. Choose to Live Your Purpose - Identify what drives you and gives your life meaning. By choosing to live your purpose, you focus your efforts on goals that are genuinely important to you. This gives you direction, clarity, and a deep sense of fulfillment as you contribute to something greater than yourself. It means making a positive impact and finding satisfaction in your journey. Choose Integrity over Convenience - Choose to do the right, even when it's not easy or convenient. Integrity involves being honest and having strong moral principles. It means standing by your values even in challenging situations, which earns you respect and self-respect. Choose integrity often leads to long-term success over short-term gains. Choose to Be Your Authentic-Self -Embrace and express your true self, with all its strengths and vulnerabilities. Being authentic means closing the gap between who you truly are and who you present to the world. It fosters genuine connections with others and allows you to live freely and confidently, staying true to who you are. Choose to Care for People -Show empathy and compassion towards others. Caring for people involves actively listening, understanding their feelings, and helping when needed. This choice not only impacts the lives of others positively but also enriches your own life, fostering a sense of community and connection. Choose Humility and Growth - Recognize that there's always room for improvement. Choosing humility and growth means being open to learning and feedback, acknowledging your limitations, and constantly seeking to better yourself. This mindset leads to personal development and a deeper understanding of both yourself and the world around you. "The absolute heart of loyalty is to value those people who tell you the truth, not just those people who tell you what you want to hear. In fact, you should value them most." - Pat Summitt - - - Follow @coachajkings for more posts like this!
