@CoachCI1 @stevegumearthl1 @aheroamongmen Dallas did that because their pick had protections on it. Again, “highest odds” is doing a lot of work here because at 8.1%, that’s basically a 1 in 12 chance. Those are still very bad odds. No one has good odds now.

We had 10 different teams lose 50+ games this season. That’s 1/3 of the NBA. 10 years ago, it was 7. 20 years ago, it was 5. Dont let anyone gaslight you into believing tanking wasn’t a problem.

Based on what you know today, which 3 teams do you think will be in the “lottery relegation zone” next season?

@CoachCI1 @aheroamongmen @Charlottean28 They were at least 10 teams trying to game the system this year. It was so bad in the West, Golden State was locked into the play-in in February. Gaming the system is point shaving.

@stevegumearthl1 @aheroamongmen @Charlottean28 100% agree! I hated it. But I think Adam Solver caused this when he flattened the lottery odds the first time. He made it easier to tank and get a good pick. Now he made it even easier (outside of being in the bottom 3) to lose on purpose and get a good pick.

@FlyEvolutionary Bad teams will no longer be tanking since there is no incentive. So how do bad teams improve since they are more likely to get a bad draft pick now?

And what annoys me about it is a-lot of those teams have been tanking for over a decade. We don’t need to see teams like Sacramento, Washington, Charlotte, and Utah get anymore top 5 picks just for they could stink em up

Last tweet on this (I hope): Losing on purpose as a team-building strategy is BAD FOR SPORTS. Not just gambling, not just TV ratings but for the integrity of the game. We’ve just raised too many fake GMs and twitter Daryl Moreys who’ve lost the plot entirely.

@CoachCI1 @aheroamongmen @Charlottean28 Teams are still going to tank, but maybe not to the extent they have been since Sam Hinkie made this ridiculous shit en vogue. Stop trying to lose for multiple years.

@stevegumearthl1 @aheroamongmen @Charlottean28 Yes you still can. But most likely you will get a significantly lower pick now. The odds are against you and benefit good teams. And since teams aren’t tanking how do bad teams get better when the good teams are more likely to get the better picks and players?

La réforme anti-tanking de la NBA est la pire chose qui pouvait possiblement arriver à la ligue en terme de compétitivité, de développement et de maintien des fanbases. Les sites de paris sportifs sont les grands gagnants par contre.

@stevegumearthl1 @aheroamongmen @Charlottean28 They killed the odds. Before the worst team has a 100%chance of a top 5 pick It’s a coin flip for top10 (48/52%)& 28/72% to get top5. You have a70% chance of being the worst team & not picking top5 & a 50/50chance you won’t be in the top10 while better teams have way better odds

@CoachCI1 @Charlottean28 Like I’m genuinely confused at your point here. The hawks made good move and got rewarded for it. These type of good moves don’t suddenly stop existing

@aheroamongmen @Charlottean28 I believe teams in the middle will do this more because they will actually get higher and better picks. I think teams at the bottom are screwed and teams at the top will be able to more easily rebuild.

@aheroamongmen @Charlottean28 They made great moves & should be rewarded But the aprons penalize teams staying together (it will come for the Hawks in a few years just like it did for Minnesota, Denver, & OKC) Now you have to get very lucky & get a great player in a late pick. Team building is different now

@derekbrooks_ How do you improve though? You are already bad with less talent since there will be no tanking. Statistically you will have a way worse pick. Stars don’t move in free agency in the apron era & trades are harder for you because of the aprons/your picks devalued in the new lottery

@CoachCI1 It’s a problem that forces action, transactions, investment in improvement they aren’t currently making. It’ll be interesting to see over the next 3 seasons

@aheroamongmen @Charlottean28 Jalen Johnson was because of injuries/issues he had at Duke. His talent was never in question. His health and character were. NAW is a result of the aprons. If it wasn’t for the luxury tax he would still be in Minnesota and they would have been better for it.

This right here! Expand the odds, don’t flatten them. Then it is easy to punish a team like the process 76ers for blatant tanking and other teams are incentivized to compete while team building is still possible for bad teams.
will@will_nba_hater

The solution to tanking was to make the odds BETTER not worse for the very worst teams. Teams like Bulls (23-22 in January) and grizzlies (18-23) in 2017 would have been forced to just go for the 8 seed, because good odds wouldn’t have been achievable.

It used to be the bottom 5 teams that tanked. People complained about Philly, so the odds were flattened, resulting in the bottom 10 teams tanking. Now the “solution” is to incentivize teams 7~16 to tank, but hey, the bottom five teams will try harder? Yay?

I hope every single beat reporter in every NBA city is prepared to ask the team’s Governors or organization representatives about why they voted to support the lottery reform changes. How do you justify the unpredictably in team building, trades, etc. this just unleashed?
