I'm not going to lie... I judge coaches who stop coaching based on the score. Coaches that are still coaching when they are down by 20+impress me the most. If I expect my kids to never quit, I should never quit.

Why has player accountability become so dangerous for coaches? If a coach says you can do better or be better that’s a compliment and they care about you deeply.

@td_kane How would you design workshop. In a retreat situation or through out the year?

@CoachChristyM Over their dev. 4) self evaluation— helping ath become more self analytic ab dev needs, part of the conversation ab goals/tactics to advance their game, shifting coach role a bit more to facilitator as aths take ownership 5) reinforcing env where effort/tech matter most.

Oprah mentality of everyone gets a trophy! When kids never lose growing up & are always awarded. They aren’t taught valuable lessons of growth and desire to be better. They don’t know losing & constructive criticism. Just my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

@td_kane Good points. How would you develop the accountability mindset?

@CoachChristyM Could be that coaches aren’t focused enough on developing that mindset? With high pressures to win, transfer portels, and “stars” attached to recruits, perhaps the focus is on managing talent more than developing it.

@CoachWolfson To paraphrase an old Gonzaga coach from four decades ago, it has always been a skill. A skill that is harder to teach the older a player gets. It has to be ingrained early or it rarely takes.
