With the original date of the 3A baseball sectional semifinal postponed on Wednesday due to rain, it set up a showdown today between the Bulldogs and the Glenwood Titans. Mason Orton and Cam Appenzeller from Glenwood, two of the state's top left-handed pitchers, engaged in a titanic battle. The Bulldogs were up for the challenge and came out on top by a score of 6-0 to advance to the Sweet 16. An amazing pitching performance from @masonorton2025 shut down any hope for a Glenwood team that some projected to have a deep postseason run. Orton pitched one of his best games at the right time. The southpaw tossed six shutout innings and struck out nine Titans while only allowing three hits and two walks. With Orton on rails, the offense and defense, backed his energy and effort. The Bulldogs struck early and often against the top-rated LHP, Appenzeller. Nolan Johnson got it going right out of the gate with an RBI single to left field to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Orton singled to get on base, and Paxson O’Malley got aboard with a bunt. Tyson Finch joined the hit party with a single to right field. Orton attempted to score on Finch's hit but was thrown out at the plate. With two outs, Matthew Kirby delivered a blow with a two-RBI double to centerfield. The Bulldogs kept the two-out rally going with a Camden Heinold RBI single to give the Bulldogs a commanding 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth inning, O’Malley delivered a clutch two-out, two-RBI double to right field to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead. That blow resulted in the Titan’s ace getting pulled from the game. In a year where the Titan’s ace hasn’t allowed any runs scored, the Bulldogs plated six runs in this contest. The Bulldogs also had 11 hits on him. Nolan Sanderson pitched the final inning for the Bulldogs and did not allow a hit and struck out one to send the Bulldogs to the sectional championship. The Bulldog offense tallied a total of 13 hits. @Nolan_Johnson21 led the way, going 4-4 with an RBI. O’Malley was 2-3 (double) with two RBI. Heinold has two hits and an RBI. Kirby has one hit (double) and two RBI. Ray Long had two hits. Seven Bulldogs collected hits. The Bulldog defense had no errors and had some great plays to defuse any Titan rally. All in all, it was a complete team effort and team win. The stage is now set for a sectional championship between the Bulldogs and Champaign Central. The first pitch will be at 11am on Saturday in Lincoln. @MSBulldogBS @mshsathletics

It was a tale of two halves for both teams, but the Bulldogs came back home with a 59-47 road conference win at Mt. Zion. Turnovers were the story of the first half for the Bulldogs against Mt. Zion's full-court press, but the Bulldogs were able to stay within striking distance. They went into halftime with an eight-point deficit. In the second half, the Bulldogs were able to clean up their turnovers and intensified their defense against the Braves to force turnovers. Right out the gate in the third quarter, @reese_gallier hit a couple of 3-pointers to draw the Bulldogs to within two points. The Braves responded with a bucket of their own, but a bucket down low and another 3-pointer by Gallier gave the Bulldogs the lead. Gallier scored the first 14 points (four 3-pointers) for the Bulldogs in the third quarter. @KylieWaldinger polished off the final five points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer. The Bulldogs had a 40-38 lead after three quarters. In the fourth quarter it was all Bulldogs. Kylie Waldinger led the charge, scoring eight points, and Courtney Fonte had seven points. Reese Gallier led all scorers with 19 points, including five 3-pointers and an epic third quarter performance. Kylie Waldinger netted 18 points and was 5/6 from the charity stripe. Courtney Fonte was also in double figures with 13 points, including four 3-pointers. Rounding out the Bulldog scoring was Hannah Martin with seven points and Hannah Creel with two points. JV lost their contest against Mt. Zion by a score of 30-40. @mshsathletics @ngpreps

The 2024 @MSBulldogBS team carried the weight of many teams before them of Glenwood ending a Bulldog Baseball season. This 2024 team has proven all season that they can hang with anyone on any given day. Today was different as the Bulldogs won a thrilling sectional semifinal game against Glenwood by a score of 10-9. The Titans had momentum in the first two innings when they had a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs never gave in. In the top of the third inning, the Bulldogs got things started with a Noah Butler leadoff single. Cade Starrick was then hit by a pitch. The next Bulldog in the box was Cam Heinold, who laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Butler and Starrick into scoring position. Senior Finn Randolph then drilled a line drive to right field that scored Butler and Starrick, cutting the Titan lead to one run. Gavin Bailey then grounded out, but Randolph was able to score and tie the game at three runs on the play. The momentum continued. Ray Long doubled, Nolan Johnson walked, and Finch was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Matt Orr then delivered the go-ahead run on a single, scoring Long. The Bulldogs, with Alec Bergman pitching, retired the side in the bottom of the third inning. -cont. (1of4)-

You sir are certainly the best! My son Jack would not be the player he is today without your commitment to making him better. You have impacted so many young men and they are truly blessed not only in football, but in life as well. Keep being great Coach and enjoy those kids!
