🟥 #1 Michigan vs #3 Indiana ⬜️
February 2nd, 2013
After beating Minnesota, Indiana would fall asleep at the wheel and lose a tough game to Wisconsin. Following that L Indiana would win 4 straight leading up to their first matchup with mega Big 10 contender, Michigan.
Indiana defeated the Wolverines 81-73 in a high-stakes showdown. Indiana, showcased their dominance early, securing a 36-32 halftime lead. Michigan fought hard behind Trey Burke's 25 points and Tim Hardaway Jr.'s 18 points but despite their efforts, the Wolverines struggled to overcome Indiana's relentless defense and efficient shooting. Michigan's Mitch McGary added 10 points and seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
Cody Zeller led the Hoosiers with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Victor Oladipo added 15 points and key defensive plays. Jordan Hulls contributed 11 points, including three crucial three-pointers, and Christian Watford chipped in with 14 points.
The win lifted Indiana to 20-2 overall and 8-1 in the Big Ten. Michigan fell to 20-2 and 7-2 in the conference.

🟥 What Could’ve Been ⬜️
Romeo Langford had an incredible high school career, but I can’t help but to think, had someone like Tom Crean gotten ahold of him instead of Archie could he have developed into even more? Also that wrist injury was nagging him all year.
Freshman Year Stats
16.5 PPG

My personal ALL TIME FAVORITE HOOSIER. Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell. The epitome of what it means to be a leader. A home raised Hoosier out of Indianapolis. Yogi came to IU and instantly filled the crucial PG role on the pre season #1 Hoosiers. In every year following Yogi continued to mature and improve his game becoming one of the best point guards in school history (and there are a lot of good point guards that came through IU). Yogi is the career assists record holder and a top 10 member in many other individual categories.
Yogi was the heart and soul of the Hoosier squads during his 4 years on campus, and I’d argue he is the biggest icon in modern IU history (Post 2000).

Pike Central 5'11 Sr PG Quade Morton might not be the same athlete vertically as teammate Julian Gish, he's every bit as skilled with the ball, if not more. Rival coaches share a similar sentiment: "the kid is a player." The lefty playmaker was offered by IU-Columbus last fall, but minimal since. Nothing imminent at the moment. Could help at the D3 and NAIA level. Really good kid who loves basketball. Program changing presence on the court. Pike Central was 4-42 his first 2 seasons, but improved to 24-24 the last two.
17.8p/5.0r/2.9a/1.9s making 38% on 3s (44-115), which is right at his career mark (139-370).

You’re looking at a legend, a warrior, a coach, a son, a father, and my hero. Kevin Duane Ferrell Sr. aka Jeep aka Pops. This man here was the greatest father in the world and my biggest inspiration. When you talk about a father’s unselfishness and unwavering love for his kids, this man here was the one. He gave up everything so that his kids could succeed. I would not be where I am today without his love for me. He’s one of the hardest working men I’ve ever known. He taught me how to have great work ethic and how to be genuine to anyone I meet. Pops loved life and loved to have fun. He was the real deal, his personality was contagious, he had this swag to him that made people gravitate towards him. He could get anything done that you asked for. Pops was a straight up hustler. He always knew someone that would look out for him because his character allowed him to develop long lasting relationships that people wanted to do things for him. Even now I know I have people that will lookout for me because of him.
I had an amazing childhood because of him. From watching him play ball at the Gus Maker to the camping trips we took, I’m thankful for it all. I was able to travel all over the country with my Dad and play ball. I couldn’t have asked for it any other way, I was blessed to have a father like him. My favorite memory growing up is doing the lock-in camps. He organized a bunch of kids to go to a gym, hoop all day, eat and sleep there and repeat the next day. I know this brought him so much joy to watch me and all the other kids having fun.
He has made a long lasting impact on the state of Indiana because without him there would be no Kevin Duane Ferrell Jr. Growing up, I now cherish the late night workouts until 2am then going to get breakfast. I’m thankful he had me playing in the trenches growing up because all it did was make me a dog. He was always in my corner since the day I was born. He is the reason I wear #11. He is the reason I wore high socks playing basketball. He never missed a game throughout my career and would always travel to my games to support me. I remember growing up and him telling everyone, “my son is going to the NBA one day.” I never believed it but you had a greater vision for me. Well Pops against all odds, we did it. You got me there and we got to share our dream together and no one can take that away from us.
All he ever wanted was for me to succeed, not only in basketball but in life as well. He taught me that I need to be a community man and give back as much as possible, because it’s always bigger than basketball. Because of what he has instilled in me, we have been able to open so many doors for our family and I’ve been able to share my story with others to inspire them.
Dad, look at what you have accomplished, 4 beautiful successful children. Dad, you have taught me how to live and now that you are the fertilizer to my life I will continue forward, ten toes down. Dad, everything I do will be to honor you, there won’t be a day that goes by that you won’t be on my mind. Anytime I get into tough situations I will remember you saying, “play the game within the game son, “keep chipping away.” And I will do just that. You always told me how proud of me you are but really I was even more proud to be your son. I miss you Dad, I love you Dad, rest easy and watch over us, I got it from here.
