@SuitUpVarsity Not sure about the other classes, but this made no difference in Class A. The state took over scheduling in 1995 and locked all the teams into the same schedule until 1998. Columbus opted up, so the odd number of teams required Class A schools to play teams from Iowa for 4 years.

Always interesting to look at old classifications and enrollment numbers. These are for football 1997 & 1998.

@SuitUpVarsity Those striped pants were still in use with the sophomore and jv squads well into the mid 80s.

This 1978 pic of the Cards at Pius gives us such a niche look at the SSC helmet (and pants striping!) that I thought it would be interesting next to the 1986, 2019, and 2020 South Sioux helmets.

@SuitUpVarsity One other odd note: The game was played on Saturday afternoon. The Dome hosted a lot of HS games in the 80s when the Yotes were playing on the road.

@SuitUpVarsity Some fun side notes: Omaha Central and Omaha North both had openings that season. Luckily for us, we chose to play the Vikings instead of the Central state championship juggernaut. SSC had to pay for North's bus to make the trip to Vermillion to seal the deal.

Omaha North and South Sioux City play in the Dakota Dome in the fall of 1984. Not sure what the story is behind this game site. Has to be one of the few high school football games played between Nebraska schools outside of the state's boundaries.
