@CoachKenCofer Disagree imo if it can’t be measured it’s not real. But if you feel like it helps you get results & you are wining, your team is setting jump & sprint PRs, then get after it.
If not, don’t be scared to change
"Power Cleans do not make you explosive"
"If you want to be explosive, you must train with 30% as fast as possible"
"Explosive Strength is not measured in weight, its measured in velocities"
- Louie Simmons ep. 24 of the podcast ~63 min in.
This is why we DB jump!!
@CoachKenCofer Just trying to get folks to be consistent in their thinking on here.
Don’t care if anyone disagrees with me. I just dislike seeing people using contradictory arguments to suit their own biases.
@thereallsu777 Dawg.
For one,
Do you honestly think I don’t have data with and without any Olympic lifts to base my opinions on?
Two,
Why on earth would I ever only use one movement for a whole program?
Third,
I’m very well documented on my opinion that I’m anti power clean, specifically.
The point is,
It’s pretty stupid to think that getting better at Olympic lifts or increasing how much load you can move at bar speeds in the 0.70-0.90 m/s range somehow fails to improve any qualities.
You can move more weight fast? Sounds like peak force, RFD, or both went up.
@thereallsu777 It’s not the same, and not same catch spot as far as depth. But not arguing about “does very little in field metrics”. My argument comes from a strength/power mindset that definitely translates to the field.
@CoachKenCofer Same difference, catch position doesn’t really matter in this case. Still does very little in terms of on the field metrics. One exception is if you go very light like 25-30% & track velocity. But throws would still be better for that especially with radar gun to track
@CoachKenCofer i mean i love PC so i understand, they just dont work very well to drive on field metrics imo & others that are producing what many coaches consider...not possible results.
IMO its our job to strip everything out that is not driving results.
@thereallsu777 Mindsets of kids in the weight room, if taught correctly, would change some of your thinking. I agree with a lot of “science”, but I also know that you have to see how kids react to lifts/movements.
@CoachKenCofer thats what explosive is. its the ability to produce force at a rapid rate at the far end of the FV curve aka rate of force dev in which is just how fast can you recruit & get the motor units to fire.
much better ways to teach 3x ext too. Most hs kids dont even get to 3x ext
@CoachKenCofer well then the cleans are the one driving numbers, only driving fatigue. Can I ask what are you trying to accomplish with the clean? what is the goal of the exercise?
@thereallsu777 I guess it’s all how you teach it. Agree with maybe not helping with vertical. In football, it’s not all about vertical when I talk about “explosive”.
@CoachKenCofer not really, especially after novice phase. If you put a vbt on the bar, you will see 95% of HS athletes move it too slow for explosive strength & too fast for max effort. PC is constrained by squat strength. It doesnt transfer to Verts or acceleration sprints. DB jumps are a much
@CoachKenCofer better alternatives. All weighted jumps are. Same with resisted Broads & med ball throws. You will get much more explosive from resisted sprinting, weighted jumps, & ballistic med ball throws combined with ME or BMT strength work to drive absolute strength side of the curve.
Some great training today!
3 x 1 clean complex
4 rotation circuit
Something a little fun to finish off this cycle.
Consistency > how you feel
Discipline > motivation
Here is a mom who refuses to let her daughter become another victim of a broken system. She wants her child to become a leader in the community and not just a follower of the troubled masses.
Many people are saying this mom is abusing her child.
Do you think this is abuse or parenting? Let me know!
