@Coach_Timmerman @anderson58__ As a lover of wide zone, you made this coaches day! You got an instant follow and a “hell yeah!” Now for the imaginary fist bump for the late great Alex Gibbs.

Coaches out on the trail…if you have need for a 26 QB hit me up. You will not be disappointed. Especially if you are coming through the Central Valley area of CA. I would love to chat.

@chrisvIQtory Coaches should certainly think through as many variables as they can. When I build out RB footwork it is built off of starting position of the back and tied to the offensive line footwork/block timing, as well as mesh point, body position, and how you are attacking the D.

Good question! The variables from an offensive line perspective is time intensive. Using the example he gave: Wide zone - Can you reach the 3 tech? If not, how do you adjust? Do you hang on double teams longer because the frontside linebacker isn’t great at scraping to the football or does he always over-pursue so cutback lane is available - How do you play someone like Aaron Donald? Block down and bucket step around? Run away? Do you have to make creative adjustments? - What’s the plan for blocking blitzes, slants, stunts, reductions, etc. (Have to rep both mentally in film room and on the field. Biggest time spent.) - Does the RB’s aiming point now change based on these adjustments. If so he needs to be cycled into the OL room I know it looks like just running wide zone on the surface but OL coaches/coordinators have their hands full preparing for all these adjustments beforehand, so they’re not having to scramble to make them in the game. Everything is loaded ready to go.

I’m not trying to be an asshole, but if you have to spend countless hours on zone read… is nfl coaching even that great? It’s zone - which they run, with a mesh from qb to rb. What took countless hours?

@KH_Pike You are not completely off base in the observation, but I think the margin of error being so small in the NFL is why seemingly simple things require more hashing out than expected. It’s doesn’t take countless hours to come up with footwork, but maybe to find the right footwork.

Becker and Black have been impressive tonight. Would like to have seen Black get fed more earlier but man what a game so far.

As a play caller you have to have a clear understanding of why you are doing what you are doing. Fewer guys in more space is how I like to approach it. QB has to understand this as well. This is a good glimpse of the thought process behind the decision making.

A good example of the cat & mouse game coordinators play. Pinch-loop out of EMOL and W to give the “keep” read to the QB (ends up getting loaded by the Tackle). Y arc cuts off W. The F arcs to Safety which creates the plus 1. Creative way to run QB to essentially TE/Wing.

🚨DOUBLE ARCS IZ🚨 Why get one lead block for zone read when you can have ✌️ Easy way to add blockers to get hat on $ @ProQuickDrawPQD makes it easy to create wrinkles & answers to your run game!
