This is a good question. 3 stops in a row, versus 3 randomized stops provides the team an opportunity to go on a run, on a micro level and to ‘shorten the game’ on a macro level. This gives more intrinsic value to each possession, and if done 7 times provides an EV of 90%. @patkelsey provides an explanation below. He got it from Chris Mack at Xavier, but every major program tracks this metric.

@steeder10 What's important about 3 stops in a row that's not important about 4 in a row or 2 in a row if the overall % of stops in a game is the same? Offensively, if I score 85 points on 70 possessions, I'm going to win a certain % of games, and the runs aren't that important.
