Every single parent will now be holding their kid back a year and starting their college clock at 19 instead of 17 or 18 because of this rule. So essentially, if you don’t hold your kid back , he’ll be competing against guys who did. Either way, the new norm will be freshmen being the avg age of 19 now. I was 19 going into my JR year at USC 😵‍💫😭

The NCAA has approved a new "5-for-5" eligibility model that allows athletes five seasons of competition within a five-year window, replacing the traditional four-seasons-in-five-years structure. The eligibility clock will begin when an athlete either enrolls full-time in college or at the start of the academic year following their 19th birthday — whichever comes first. Traditional redshirts and most waiver requests would largely disappear under the new system.
