As a fan of pure soccer we're trying to GROW the sport in this super competitive American market, so if the division 1 pro league is minimizing grassroots level futbol that isn't gonna help. Its not a complete gamble, especially with leagues cup because they get money as they advance to cover costs. You know the answer but refuse to accept it. Money will rule and has always.

@CoachRSearle @cosmotexan @HoustonDynamo But that defeats the purpose of "playing professionally for the money". If it doesn't make financial sense then why do it. There's risk in everything like you say so why not keep honoring the traditional open tournament that gives more exposure to the lower league clubs

@chepito2k10 @cosmotexan @HoustonDynamo Obviously there is risk. Them winning it will cover everything, its why they get more as they advance to cover those costs. Just like Europe teams budget for Champions League and when they don't get far in the tournament or qualify they cut cost by selling players.

@chepito2k10 @cosmotexan @HoustonDynamo Why do you think clubs play in Cups in the first place? Playing professionally is always about the money. Owning a professional club is a business. Without the money, the clubs can't get the players they need or want. Can't provide adequate training for players.

@cosmotexan @HoustonDynamo You know there is a $40 million prize for winning the Leagues Cup. Concacaf is only $5 million, and Open and MLS cup is $300k. I think the Leagues Cup is just going to get better.
