Congratulations to Shia Brown on his commitment to play baseball at Berry College. Shia has been a a valuable member of a terrific Brookwood HS baseball program and we are excited to see him continue on for the Vikings! Shia will bring a great glove that can play at either corner of the infield and powerful bat that should compete for at bats early in his college career. Excited to watch Shia compete for years to come! @sxbrown28 @BC_Baseball

The problem with youth sports is winning is at the cost of development. Development needs to be driving the winning. What are you trying to win? The short term or the long term? No one cares about the tournament you won at 10u when you didn't learn the game the right way in order to win at 16u. Development should be driving everything. It's not attractive because it's the long game. It won't happen immediately and that turns people away.

The NCAA’s new “5-in-5” eligibility model is going to completely reshape college recruiting, roster management, transfers, redshirts, PG years, and long-term planning for families. ⚾ PG years may now COST a year of eligibility ⚾ Redshirts are essentially gone ⚾ Injury hardship years become much harder ⚾ Coaches will recruit differently ⚾ Transfer timelines become tighter ⚾ Long-term planning matters more than ever This is exactly why families need guidance now more than ever before. The recruiting process is no longer just about talent, it’s about understanding rules, timing, fit, development, exposure, roster math, and strategy. At College Athlete Advantage, we help athletes and families navigate the changing recruiting landscape with a real plan instead of guesswork. The families who understand these changes early will have a major advantage moving forward.

Nothing is LESS impressive to me than a 12u team that never loses. PLAY UP! No one cares about your team of giant 6th graders physically dominating on a 200 foot field! Play where you can lose if you don’t play well, it’s the only way you’ll get better!

When a travel ball parent brags about their kid's team's amazing record, and how they're crushing the opposition, my response is always that they need to start playing teams that can beat them, even if that means playing up an age group.

Meet Rob, our baseball supervisor in Georgia. 👋 "Growing up in Marietta, GA, I played for East Cobb Baseball, representing the Ringors and Astros as an amateur, and earned All-Region and Georgia State team honors in high school. I played alongside future college and Major League players from the area. After a successful high school career, I signed with Presbyterian College on a baseball scholarship, where I batted .410 as a freshman and earned Rookie of the Year honors. During my sophomore season, I hit 9 home runs and batted .370 with 24 doubles before transferring to Elon University, where I earned All-Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association, First Team All-Southern Conference, and All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association. I helped lead Elon to a top-25 finish and a 2-seed at the Clemson regional in the NCAA tournament. As the 2006 team MVP, I hit .340 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs. I was named to the watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award, given annually to the top collegiate player in the nation by the College Baseball Foundation. I was also selected to the First Team Preseason All-America team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. I had the good fortune to play two seasons for the Mankato Moondogs in the Northwoods League, one of the finest collegiate summer leagues. I come from a baseball family—my father played for the University of Toledo, my brother Ryan played professionally for 6+ years, reaching AAA with the Texas Rangers, and my nephew Tyler Tolve is a rising prospect in the Atlanta Braves system. I have also coached and instructed players at various amateur levels, including several years of high school travel ball. My own family recruitment experience, deep coaching network connections, and passion for the game are all exciting assets I can leverage while helping student-athletes and their families navigate the ever changing and unique college recruitment process." You can trust that our advisors have the experience, expertise and passion to help you through your own recruiting process - because they've been in your shoes. Reach out to Rob if you are in the Georgia area! 👍

College coaches are ALWAYS looking for true shortstops. Not “can survive there.” Not “might move there.” REAL shortstops who can stay on the left side, defend, move, think the game, and make plays consistently. They are hard to find. If you can truly play SS at a high level, opportunities will come. Defense matters. A lot.
