What Ponder Basketball Should Look Like Coach Ryan Russell shares what he wants people to see when Ponder steps on the floor — a standard built on character, effort, focus, and playing with joy every single day. “I want their character to come through in terms of they’re working hard, they’re playing for each other.…when you step on the floor, you’re ready to go, you’re ready to compete.… I’d want our guys’ character to show through of them being disciplined, playing hard…having a spirit of joy, bringing, you know, we talk about being a fountain or a drain.”

Earning Your Stripes at Ponder Coach Ryan Russell breaks down one of Ponder’s most unique and long-standing traditions — the iconic striped pants — and why putting them on means more than people realize. “It’s kind of been a tradition where only varsity players will wear the striped pants… it’s just kind of been somewhat of like a varsity tradition of earning your stripes.…Being able to put those pants on is kind of a special privilege… some of them were pretty giddy about like, man, since I’ve been in third grade I’ve been watching varsity basketball players put these pants on, and I finally kind of get to do it myself.”
