while watching Witch from Mercury, recognizing all the characters and scenes I've seen out of context on Twitter has been more fun than the actual meat of the show. Its like Glup Shittos but for oomf.

@hoodless_ow Kou wants to be noble, to be mythic. He wants to get the girl and beat the bad guy and save the day. In the end, his stubborness and childishness leads him to save no one and achieve nothing but senseless slaughter. No matter how big or special his Gundam is, he is just a soldier

@MegatenSenshi In a world of psychic superbeings and deified war heroes, what of those right on the outskirts? People told that they were special, but who will never reach those heights? Its an angry film, about pathetic adults crying out at the world for being betrayed and discarded.

@MegatenSenshi As a Narrative defender, I think it tells an incredible story about feelings of inadequacy. The perspective of characters who feel powerless and insignificant in the face of such impossible powers is an incredibly insightful story to tell in the setting of the Universal Century.

The thing about witp is that it’s a good ova but I’m so tired of the “it’s the best gundam cause it touches the most on gundams core theme” when it doesn’t feel like it has more to say aside from “war ruins ordinary people”
