I think my hardest coaching task to date is trying to convince our girls that it’s possible to compete at our district meet AND go to prom in the same night. Yes. Same night. Just like the last 4 years. Beyond my control. It’s easier trying to convince a wall to move lol

How 3 years can change a program. When you give the athletes the belief and standard of success, it will follow.

As educators why don’t we talk more about cost of school health care? Trying to cover your family cost a fortune. Does any educators / coaches have an alternative?

@CoachScribner I agree, and I would add "how you spend your time" at a program. That's where the buy-in comes from.

I went to a coaching clinic in 2012. Big name coach. Packed room. I sat in the front row with a notebook and wrote down everything. Every workout. Every weekly structure. I drove home feeling like I finally had the answer. That night my wife asked how it went. "It was great. I learned a lot. It's exciting to hear these guys speak." "But?" "It didn't feel right. It didn't feel like what I need right now." "Well, what do you need?" I remember sitting there for a second. "I don't know. I can't explain it. But I still don't understand the big picture." She didn't push it. I implemented everything from that notebook. Followed it exactly. By October I was lost. The paces didn't fit my kids. The why behind the workouts was something nobody taught. I went back the next year. Different clinic. Different coach. Same notebook. It took me a while to realize my wife had asked the only question that mattered.

Back to the Oval Office tomorrow. Excited to kick off the track season for year 10! Maybe I am as old as these kids think.

Coaches don’t forget to tell your athletes you are proud of them. My athletes have 6:30am practice 80% of the year. That alone takes dedication, let them know you are proud of them.

If you are going to blame anyone blame the NCAA for limiting the roster spots and the opportunity for great coaches to development HS aged Americans into elite runners.

With all the debate of D1 and XC teams being majority internationals. When you limit teams to roster sizes you take away the ability for development over years. Teams are having to get the most of their spots and simply a 20 year old international is going to help more than 18

Our Burnett XC girls Rockin their #RunninRaider gear today after another W at the meet! Future looks bright!

The men’s Midwest and south region in NCAA D1 XC have the highest international population on their top 7 and besides Ok State haven’t won a National Title Since ‘94. Seems by the numbers teams at elevation with a comfortable mix are consistently at the top.

Jumped back into workouts with the kids this morning and learned a few things. 1. It’s not as easy as it used to be. 2. My girls have better foot turnover than me. 3. Old man aerobic strength is a real thing. Coaches never give up the dream of running with the squad!
