You’re not getting beat by better players. You’re getting beat by the same mistake over and over. Ball in play. Game speeds up. And you rush it. You rush the throw. You rush the swing. You rush the decision. And you call it “playing fast.” It’s not. It’s playing out of control. College players don’t rush. They slow the game down. Same speed. Different pace. They let the play come to them. Then they finish it clean. Because the game isn’t won by who moves the fastest. It’s won by who stays in control the longest. Rushing creates errors. Control creates outs. Good players speed up. Great players stay calm when everything else speeds up. And the gap between high school and college? It’s who stays calm when it speeds up. Most mistakes in baseball happen between pitches. Not during the play. The pitch ends. Now what happens? Most high school players relax. They look in the dugout. They fix their batting gloves. They drift. College players reset. They check the runner. They confirm the count. They know the next play. Before the sign is even given. Baseball rewards attention. Pitch after pitch. Inning after inning. If your focus disappears between pitches, you’re always one moment late. And late decisions lose games. High school lets you relax between pitches. College punishes it. This is awesome. Look how flat his swing is on that high FB he goes oppo taco on. My hitting coordinator in the minor leagues, Mike Lum, played with him on the Braves. I asked him what Hank's hitting approach was, and he said "He looked FB middle away, trying to drive the ball back up the middle/right center. Any off speed he tried to stay back on and keep same direction." What's funny is that every great hitter I ever played with had almost the exact same hitting approach.

A Hank Aaron full ab. You don’t see these come up often. Yogi behind the dish and Larsen on the bump.
