Sacramento Adventist Athletic Director Cyrus Jones asked me to step down today as girls basketball head coach. I did not agree to do so as I am committed to the players and program. AD Jones then terminated me saying I was not a good fit. It was an honor to coach these girls.

@TripleDoubleXO We prefer not to have to dribble across half court. If we do we are speed dribbling (don’t want to get trapped). If no pitch aheads tho we look to early reverse to our trailer before half court and initiate our first action.

What is your philosophy on early transition offense versus flowing directly into half-court sets? What drills do you use to develop decision-making in early offense? How do you coach players to recognize when transition isn’t there and flow into secondary actions?

@TripleDoubleXO We want width before depth. Hunt pitch ahead layups, arrive in our spacing in the first :05 and flow into initial actions seamlessly. Whatever X and O’s you want but those are our principles regardless. The simpler/more consistent roles you can make it the faster they can be.

Bam just had the grossest historic game ever. He became the first ever player to score 70 while shooting under 50% on FGs (20/43). He attempted 43 free throws and made 36, both the most ever. He played 42 minutes & his team intentionally fouled to prolong a 30-point blowout.

@CoachNannen @coachcascio Yeah I’ve used that too. Eventually kids become “good at the drill” and after their kick out immediately run to the 2-out. So the shot never truly appears because the kids get good at their shot contest rotation. If that makes sense.

@CoachTelles_ @coachcascio In this Primer, we do not utilize the Shoot It read. We are constraining to Drive It & Move It. Coach Cascio has a fantastic 4v2 Gulf Coast Game he plays that can provide the Shoot It read as well. We would play 4v2 Dominoes to flow into Shoot It, Drive It, Move it.

@CoachTelles_ No specific drills. Just 3v3 scripted actions, 5v5 scripted, then SSGs either 3v3, 4v4 or 5v5 with an initial action and our emphasis on the rollers/post mismatch. Not always a triple switch situation for us, usually a scram after the fact

I don’t know which players need to hear this but… “My man didn’t score” does NOT mean you played good defense. If you missed help rotations, were out of position, or forced your team into constant rotations… those possessions are on you. That’s why I just did a whole breakdown on Help Defense and how to make plays from it! Full breakdown: youtu.be/xgXy2W6PLYM

Incredibly sad news shared by the Christian Brothers basketball program on Instagram. Jaden DeJesus-Eves, a talented 6'8" rising freshman, has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time. RIP young man.

What's the best way to trap the post? Well, there's not just one answer. It depends on your system, your personnel, and your reason for trapping. Full trapping and disruption clinic out now: lockdowndefense.com/product-page/d…
