Black History Month Spotlight: Walter Beach III Walter Beach III broke barriers at Central Michigan, paving the way for generations of Chippewas and helping shape our program’s legacy. Before Central Michgan, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He went on to become a two-time CMU MVP and All-IIAC selection, earning AP All-America honors (1958/59) after rushing for 2,968 yards and 36 TDs, totaling 4,068 all-purpose yards and setting six school records. Drafted in 1960, Beach played eight NFL seasons with the Giants, Patriots, and Browns, starting on Cleveland’s 1964 NFL Championship team. Beyond the field, he became a community leader, served in public roles, attended Yale Law School, and continues leading life-skills programs. #FireUpChips
