Rick Pitino shares a masterclass on teamwork and selflessness.
"Regardless of how you play, when you play for the name on the front, the back prospers."
"When you play for the name on the back, you never prosper. All you are is guys with good stats. That's it."
Stats don't win championships - teams do.
"Play for the front. Give everything you have for the front name."
"Do everything - from diving on the floor, to blocking shots, to setting screens, to playing together. Play for the name on the front."
Great teams play for each other. They know connected teams achieve more.
"The name on the front is gonna bring big rewards for the name on the back. I guarantee it."
"Give it everything you have for this name."
The formula is simple: Put the team first, and everything else follows.
Play for the front. The back will take care of itself.

Proud of all you accomplished and the legacy you leave behind in this community.
Career & season leader in points, assists & steals is one thing… but how you played the game is another.
As the first coach who ever recruited you said, “In a gym full of guys trying to get theirs, you weren’t… but you still got your’s and that’s why you stood out.”
Love you son!

@readswithravi Geno Auriemma said, "If you just want to be average then you do average work."
"If you want to get A's in basketball then you have to do stuff that other people aren't willing to do."
Average effort = average results.
It always comes down to what you are willing to do.

Kelvin Sampson shares what separates good programs from great ones.
It comes down to 3 things.
"The best teams come from the coaching staffs that are the best demanders. There are certain non-negotiables."
"We're not going to sit down and talk about this...This is the way it's done and we expect this effort."
No debate. No negotiation. Just the standard.
"And those eventually will be called standards. So - standards, accountability, and then we've raised our expectations."
"Here's our expectations, and our expectation is probably a little bit higher than most people's. We don't talk about them."
The standard is how you operate every day.
"We practiced this morning at 6:00. Probably our best practice in the last 6 or 7 days. But that's because our standards are raising. Our kids are holding each other accountable now."
Then he said the line that defines a great program:
"That's when you know you've got a great program."
When the players hold each other accountable not just the coaches. That's when you've built something real.
The formula is:
1. Standards
2. Accountability
3. Raised Expectations.
A great team isn't made of individuals seeking personal glory - it's made of people who hold each other accountable and work towards a common goal

Kelvin Sampson didn’t inherit a winning program - he built one. Houston had 1 NCAA Tournament bid in 21 years. Now? • 8 straight 25+ win seasons. • A yearly national championship contender. Here’s how he built the most consistent program in the nation: (📌Bookmark this)

Kelvin Sampson shares why most coaches and leaders fail - and it's not what you think.
"I think the coaches that fail at every level are the coaches that are passive-aggressive. Passive-aggressive coaches are usually afraid to hold kids accountable. They rationalize."
They avoid the hard conversations.
They let things slide and hope problems fix themselves.
"If you're going to build a culture, the first thing you have to come to grips with is you're going to have confrontation. Because you want it done your way."
Culture requires confrontation. Not conflict, but confrontation. There's a difference.
"All the coaches that got fired, I'd always try to learn more from those guys than the other guys. 'Why are you guys getting fired? What is it you're not doing?'"
The answer? They overlooked the little things.
"Touching every line is a metaphor for life...Do you let that go? You start letting that go, then that kid may never touch the line."
The little things become the big things. The details you ignore become the standards you accept.
The best leaders are both warm and demanding. You know they care, but they also emphasize the little things.
If you're afraid to confront, you're afraid to lead.
