HERE IS THE REALITY OF SB 538.
Not the misinformation.
Not the fear.
Not the narrative being pushed by organizations that refused to advocate for coaches for decades.
For more than 50 years, coaches have been told to be grateful.
Grateful for compensation that has failed to reflect the time, responsibility, and impact of coaching.
Grateful for working hundreds, sometimes thousands, of unpaid hours.
Grateful for driving activity buses after games.
Grateful for remaining on campus for hours after practice waiting for the last parent to pick up their child.
Grateful for sacrificing evenings, weekends, holidays, and time with their own families because "it's for the kids."
So let's ask an honest question...
Where were these organizations when coaches needed them most?
When coaches asked for meaningful compensation?
When districts increased expectations year after year without increasing supplements?
When coaching was treated as a passion instead of a profession?
When thousands of coaches left the profession because they simply couldn't afford to stay?
Now that recertification requirements have changed for unions, ask yourself one question:
Are they fighting for coaches... or fighting to protect what they've always had?
Now that Florida has created three new legal pathways for school districts to better compensate coaches, we're supposed to believe that's somehow a bad thing?
The reality is simple.
SB 538 does not require school districts to act.
It gives them the legal authority to.
The districts that value coaches will move forward.
The districts that don't... won't.
And now every coach in Florida will know exactly where their district stands.
Over the past year, we've met with legislators.
We've spoken before school boards.
We've had hundreds of conversations with coaches, athletic directors, superintendents, school board members, and district leaders across Florida.
Some districts are already preparing to implement new policies.
Others are still searching for reasons not to.
That is their choice.
But coaches deserve to know where their district stands.
The Florida Coaches Coalition isn't going anywhere.
We'll continue educating coaches.
We'll continue correcting misinformation with facts.
We'll continue making it impossible for inaction to hide behind excuses.
The law has changed.
Now it's time for school districts to decide whether they'll lead... or continue making excuses.
