It’s here! Today is the best day of the year. Nothing matches the excitement of the opening day of the NCAA Tournament. Buzzer beaters. Cinderella upsets. 32 games in 36 hours never disappoints! This play wasn’t from March Madness, but it’s one of my favorite tournament buzzer beaters I’ve ever been part of. Check out my bracket picks and let me know who you got winning it all. #marchmadness #collegebasketball #basketball #ncaatournament #buzzerbeaters

💯Also favors players who develop physically at a younger age. Being ready to play HS varsity as a 13 year old = more career HS points than someone who matures late. But does not mean they’re going to be a better college player at 18-20 years old. 🙋🏻‍♂️I transferred schools and missed a season, was young for my grade, and developed late. So I didn’t score 1,000 HS points, but was 1st Team All State and scored twice as many points in D2 as I did in HS 🤷🏼‍♂️
Sean Strickland@Coach__Strick

Man, I’ve seen 2K scorers who struggled to compete at D3🤷🏼‍♂️ I respect ALL 1K scorers🫡 But how many points you score in HS a lot of times depends on what level (large or small school) you play in HS. Harder to do it at large school level for various reasons

AAU season is here, and a lot of players choose their team for the wrong reasons. The best gear, biggest name, or coolest travel schedule doesn’t automatically help your recruitment. Two questions matter most: 1️⃣ Will you actually play? 2️⃣ Are you playing where coaches at your level will be watching? If you’re not on the floor, coaches can’t evaluate you. And if the right schools FOR YOU aren’t in the building, exposure doesn’t matter that much. A lot of recruiting decisions are impacted by the team you choose. #recruiting #aau #collegerecruiting #recruitingtips #basketball

Working in college athletics is insanely hard. It’s juggling 500 tasks in the time frame where you should only be able to do 5. It’s being constantly on call for whatever. The people behind the scenes at EVERY LEVEL make this game special for players, families, and fans alike.

The transfer portal has created amazing opportunities for some players. It’s also created unrealistic expectations for many. There are a lot of players that think entering the portal is their ticket to moving up a level. Your production & video have to show you can play at a higher level. Otherwise, you’re likely to end up disappointed. Transferring is absolutely the right move sometimes. But a lot of guys would be better off staying put & developing. If you’re going to transfer, you need to be very confident that it will improve your basketball, academic, or financial situation. Ideally, all three. #transferportal #collegebasketball #recruiting #recruitingtips #collegerecruiting

A current college head coach shared an important recruiting thought with me this weekend. If you’re contacting high-academic schools and/or an unsigned senior, and you’ve already been accepted to their school, say that. Late in the process, coaches don’t have the bandwidth to start from scratch unless they know you’re serious and admissions won’t be a barrier. Small details like this can get your recruiting process moving faster. #recruiting #collegebasketball #collegerecruiting #recruitingtips #ballislife

Same with @el_woodhouse. Had no scholarship offers. We offered, he committed. Started for us at a D1 school as a freshman. Sophomore was top 5 in D1 in assists/game. As a senior started on a team that made the NCAA Tournament. 1st Team All-SleptOn.

This was @Joeygarwood11 for us. We felt he was a definite D2 kid, so we didn’t recruit him during the season. Played alongside Indiana Mr. Basketball & made the State Championship. Still no full rides, so we jumped in. Started and was the top freshman in our conference. Now has D2 offers. Was 100% slept on.

Nah this is a freaking STUPID thing to say. I’ve had multiple clients have no scholarship offers in April and end up starting as freshman at D2s that took a chance. Sometimes a higher level thinks a kid is not good enough & the lower level thinks the kid is too good.

🚩 Recruiting Red Flag A lot of recruits kill their recruitment before a coach even opens the email because of a bad subject line. Keep it clear & relevant: ❌ No Subject ❌ Generic Info ❌ Long Story ✅ Name ✅ Grad Year ✅ Differentiators Rule of thumb: if your subject line doesn’t make a coach want to open your email, rewrite it. #recruiting #collegebasketball #collegerecruiting #recruitingtips #recruitment

Not every issue can be managed through text or email. A short face-to-face conversation can solve what a long email chain often can’t. In coaching, some of the strongest relationships are built when you choose the conversation that’s slightly less convenient. #leadership #coaching #communication #management #coachingtips
