I have never, in my entire life, until now, seen a swimmer choose to do a longer set than required just so their teammate doesn’t have to do it alone. That’s love and leadership you just can’t teach.
My first National Signing Day with SPA was one of the most humbling experiences of my life. I’m so proud to be a part of this journey with all of them. 2 signed to NC State, 1 to William Jewell, and 1 to Kansas. Congrats Aubree, Cassie, Maddie and Maggie!
My sign off on my weekly email came from the timeless words of the poet Dwayne Carter, “If it cost to be the boss, oh well I guess I gotta pay it.” I got a group of unreal athletes, y’all stay tuned..
“What are we doing today?”
“Main set is all 50s and 75s”
“Oh good”
Proceeds to get in a Saturday 5 piece in 85 minutes. Love where we’re at, let’s keep the momentum rolling.
This was the picture I kept referencing. I know the nuances of Ledecky’s stroke/breath, but I mean look at that cap. TYR logo buried under water, American flag logo almost straight up and down. Titmus has a more consistent head position, a little more forward, but still so deep
Got after head position today. There is no such this as “good enough.” It’s either locked into the correct position or it’s causing problems throughout the stroke
Pretty incredible first week at SPA. This group is full of professionals; the way the carry themselves, their daily preparation. As a group, they have seen, trained with and achieved greatness already and they continue to hold themselves to that standard
@Michael_Hampel Every pound gained is a pound you gotta carry every race, every set, every day up the stairs. Strength gained does not equal faster tempo or fewer strokes on its own. A lean cat doesn’t have to fight waves if he puts distance on the field from the jump 🤷🏼♂️
This is a real full circle moment in a lot of ways. I was in the room when the Ark. BOD voted to accept SPA to the AR LSC and now I get to lead a group representing Arkansas again. I also get to pull The Reverse @DaveCollinsMSU path 🐻MSU➡️DU🐾
Almost exactly one year to the day since I moved to St. Louis and I’m packing up and headed back to where my coaching career started. Beginning on the 1st I’ll be the Senior coach for Springfield Aquatics and assistant coach with Drury University
Maybe the toughest conversation of any coaches career - Today I told the national group that next week will be my last at Parkway. Exciting things coming but today I poured out my gratitude for the opportunity to be their coach this past year. It’s been a blessing
