Memphis spent in the $4.5-5 million range for their roster last season. 20+ teams spent 2x what they did last season. In fact, I’m told even a few non-P5s have more to spend this upcoming year than Memphis spent last year. Now, the market is up roughly 35% from last offseason + more schools are already upping their rev share/NIL commitments for this next season. Memphis MBB is already at a significant disadvantage in terms of resources in their tier of programs (due to failure to having an adequate plan for rev share environment). Non-P5s are gaining ground, while P5s are separating themselves. This is why identifying/evaluating talent is even more important for them. It’s their only way to make up ground on teams they used to outspend + outrecruit.

Everyone remember that the year we got Ja, we didn’t “tank” in a traditional sense but got lucky. I’m a big believer in playing, coaching, and GM’ing in a way to win now (even if you’re terrible) but with a plan for the future. Basketball gods don’t appreciate tanking

@bill_kuduk This is exactly why I teach my guys not to open the gate or commit to one side before making contact. Rome does that so this is the result. I’m not saying he did good by any means but his job is to cut off the inside which he did. Play bounces and he found himself out of position

Play clearly designed to go inside. Rome does a great job getting inside leverage and in perfect position to make sure his guy can’t make a play. Ball bounces and theres nothing he can do. This is a textbook WR “missed” block play for people who don’t know what they’re looking at
