Development over results! If there are extra plyrs, create another pitch, rotate teams, or organise rolling subs. Don’t make the game bigger just because it’s easier for the adults. The game should be built around what develops the children—not what suits the adults.

Every extra player on the pitch means: ⚽ Fewer touches of the ball. 🎯 Fewer opportunities to dribble. 🧠 Fewer decisions to make. 💡 Less time learning how to solve problems. Then we ask why Ireland doesn’t consistently produce technically gifted, ball-playing footballers.

The rush to 11-a-side football in Ireland is ridiculous. Children arrive to play an age appropriate 5v5 but because the clubs have a few extra players, coaches decide to play 7v7 or even 9v9 instead. More players on the pitch doesn’t create better footballers.
