We've all worked for people like Paula Vennells - they're everywhere. People who are over-promoted and lack both the morals and critical thinking skills to do the job they're paid for. That's why the public have so much empathy for those affected - because it could happen to us.

This Sunday, World ME Day is an opportunity to refocus minds on this condition. By raising awareness, we can all help increase support, but it must be for ministers to now take decisive action. thetimes.co.uk/article/3a463a…

@kiranjoza @Headteacherchat Then yes. Absolutely. Someone who managed a bowling alley for 5yrs (and taught for 1 yr) can 100% feedback on the lesson of a 20yr teacher.

Anon post: In September, I will be starting my role as Assistant Headteacher. As a second-year ECT, I'm feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. I would greatly appreciate any advice or tips from anyone who has experience in this role. Thank you in advance! 🙌🏼

@Framheadteacher I agree. My eldest has to wait until Feb 2024 for his dissertation to be marked- due to strike action ( which I support). No Y11/13 students are having to wait for their GCSE/ A level grades due to teacher action I believe

@BibiAusmah @cyclingkev Wasn’t prepared to carry on striking without the support of other unions/ members / teachers despite this having benefitted all teachers

@CensoredHead @NickBenbow2 So as a headteacher ( I’m a NEU rep) do you feel then that schools can afford the % of funding they will have to contribute to this potential pay rise if accepted? I had thought schools really couldn’t manage without the full 6.5% being funded?

@NickBenbow2 But it has. It has given teachers a well deserved pay rise without affecting budgets any further. This was honestly the best we could get. If all unions are in agreement, that clearly shows they know there is nothing else forthcoming.

Surely, all heads and SBMs were basing their budget assumptions on at least 3.5% as that was suggested in last year's STRB. Therefore, as a minimum this additional 3% should leave you in a cost neutral position?

I have just been told that at my daughter’s school 2 yr 7 maths classes will be merged after half term so there will be 60 children in the class due to being unable to find maths teachers. @GillianKeegan maybe you could offer to help out to see why you need to listen to…

Seriously - how do people afford holidays abroad. Am I missing something? How far in advance are you supposed to book. It would take us a few years to save up to go anywhere just in europe. And thats before you arrive needing money to spend???

Considering there’s only 24 days until the resignation deadline, that’s a ridiculous number of vacancies! And that’s before including the number of schools that can’t advertise on TES because of the extortionate cost. 👀

Wow. That would indeed be living the dream. The difference a free per day having 1 full day for planning marking everything else that would be done at home is just amazing. Would also allow staff with children to speak to their own kids teachers too. Staff well being right their.

@martinEroberts @BernadetteEakin @DeputyGrocott Yes- there will be a positive impact across all the profession as a result of the actions and sacrifices of NEU members. I hope that even more benefitting members of other unions will act upon that and join the NEU in support and acknowledgment.
