i think the point she is making is international WBC fans act a lot like dedicated U.S. sports fans when the national flag is involved—pride, rivalry, and seeing "their guys" shine against elite competition. They want to see the best of the best compete, & WBC allows that for baseball.

It appears baseball is firmly the number two sport in America. The World Series has demolished the NBA Finals over the last two years. The pitch clock has changed everything and is bringing fans back. Conversely, I think fans are rejecting the style of play in the NBA.
