There's only 2 bosses with very high defense those are wandering Hunter and Hator, the rest have normal defense that allow you to fight them with any unit.
Also miasma shield is not a trouble, People had this mindset that you can melt miasma shields only with ruptures, but you can melt those shields with any agent by parry or dodging the enemy attacks.
