@Codeman43447853 @ObsoleteSony DVD audio has the highest sample rate. It just depends on your needs. I can hear above 20KHZ. Most CDs sadly were over processed sounding awful. That's specific to the recording not the format. CD is fine for average listeners. Not compressed like MP3 or Real Audio.

@Codeman43447853 @ObsoleteSony Yes because tapes have no compression or sample rate. Better quality are low noise so it's better to work with convert to any format for digital later. Digital has some advantages, low noise, good quality at high sample rates but it was better to use tape years ago.
