Bill C-59, now the law of the land, puts the onus on advertisers, such as Pathways Alliance to be prepared to backup their greenwashing claims with facts. thttps://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/pathways-alliance-bill-c59-oilsands-1.7241078?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar

"they came in sight of 30-40 Windmills there on plain, and as soon as Danielle Quixote saw them she said to her squire, Anderson: "Fortune is arranging matters for us better than we could have imagined, for look there, friend, where thirty or more monstrous giants present …"

EPS caught in the act of theft from the homeless. Doesn't the EPS have discretion in enforcing what is clearly a heartless, cruel and truly colonialist bylaw? Indeed, don't they simply have better things to do? Cut the police budget dramatically in the next municipal budget!

This morning: Vancouver park rangers, with the assistance of police officers, removing people’s tents and belongings from Oppenheimer Park, where some homeless residents have been living for months. Story to come.

Two Guns, the young Blackfoot man who was brutally arrested, punched and tased by @edmontonpolice yesterday said this earlier today about the exchange he had with the officer that punched him: ‘I’m praying for you. I love you. I’m praying for your spirit. Because you wouldn’t be doing this if you weren’t spiritually sick. But you’re going to suffer and your spirit may walk in darkness for eternity for what you’re doing to these people on this land…’ ‘You know what he told me? He told me, ‘I’ll see you in hell.’

I am not a criminal. But today I was charged with a criminal offence while doing my job as a journalist documenting the actions of police raiding vulnerable, unhoused, unarmed Indigenous Peoples in their own territories to displace them out of their tent homes & throw their belongings in a dump. I’m pissed that I was impeded from reporting on the incident. I’m pissed about the continual trauma faced by our people; the forcible removal of our people from Native lands & the phony charade of reconciliation. The violence that occurred today is not the answer. I can’t stop thinking about the people whose belongings were ravaged and thrown in dumps today. About the city injunction to sweep these people to the curb as if that will solve the problem. The city does not have a solution, the province doesn’t either. When the officer told the elder today they were going to be ‘forcibly removed’ I thought, ‘same old.’ The land acknowledgments are a joke. Edmonton isn’t the only place this is happening, it’s the aftermath of the greatest injustice that’s ever occurred across Turtle Island. The aftermath of genocide, yet the violence willfully continues.

Journalists serve as watchdogs when it comes to documenting the actions of police, especially when it pertains to the marginalized, like Native people who are the most targeted for police violence in this country. I was doing my job Wednesday documenting the homeless encampment and actions of police and the police decided to impede my work, arrest and charge me. It is important for journalists to challenge the actions and behavior of the police because we play a crucial role in holding those in power accountable and ensuring transparency in society. We provide a critical check on the actions and abuse of authority by institutions, including the police. The police have immense power and authority, including the ability to use force and restrict individual freedoms. By scrutinizing police actions, it’s our job as journalists to shed light on potential violations of civil liberties, such as excessive use of force, violence, racial profiling, or illegal surveillance. This reporting helps protect the rights and dignity of individuals within society. The police created an exclusion zone with yellow tape around the encampment. It was at least 40 feet away from what was happening, not close enough to witness. I was already inside conducting interviews in a teepee when they arrived. It happened quickly and I had my camera rolling. It was then that the arrest happened as I was pushed and asked to move to the exclusion zone. I did not and asserted my rights as a member of the press.

This is the footage I took just before I was cuffed, arrested & jailed. I had been in Cree/Metis Elder Roy Cardinal’s teepee conducting interviews with him & others at this Indigenous encampment in Edmonton. You will see Roy come out with his supporters & fellow community members living there. He expresses anger at the harm the @edmontonpolice caused Two-Guns, a Blackfoot supporter, when they violently arrested him the day before. The police advised the group to leave peacefully or be forcibly removed. He and others refused. Police moved in. Several officers jumped on Cardinal & chaos broke out. It cuts off when I’m pushed back by police & then arrested. Cardinal was roughed up, arrested, jailed & his teepee with belongings torn down & thrown in a dump. A 21-yr-old University of Alberta student was also arrested, jailed & charged with obstruction.

The notion that half of the magnificent McClelland Lake Wetland Complex could be mined by Suncor without irreparable environmental damage is as outlandish as the notion that a broken Humpty Dumpty could ever be put back together again by the AER approved (?!!!) Suncor proposal.
Alberta Wilderness Association@ABWilderness

🚨 We’ve just published a new report outlining deficiencies in Suncor’s plan to mine an EXTREMELY sensitive and unique wetland in northern Alberta. Recently, the Alberta Energy Regulator approved Suncor's plan, allowing the company to mine half the wetland starting in 2025.
