UPDATE: Our crews have cleared from today’s call on Hampton Street. Pickens Street has reopened to traffic between Blanding Street and Washington Street. Hampton Street remains closed between Pickens and Bull streets while work continues to clean up the downed utility pole.

About 28 people have been left displaced by the incident this evening and they are getting assistance from the Red Cross of South Carolina. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office. Excellent work 3rd Shift!

Busy evening for @ColaFire 3rd Shift crews after an apartment building fire went 2-Alarm in the Dentsville area of Richland County. Crews responded to Samara East apartments off of Bayfield Road shortly before 9:40 p.m. Tuesday evening.

There are eight units total to the building. Four of them were left damaged by fire, smoke and water. After the fire was brought under control, one occupant of the building was transported by Richland County EMS to get checked out as a precaution.

Upon arrival firefighters found heavy fire coming from one end of the building and spreading through parts of the roof. All occupants of the building escaped safely. Crews were able to cut the fire off and keep it from spreading to the other end of the property.

The interior of the building contained mixed recycling ♻️ materials stacked from floor to ceiling. Staff at the center used their equipment to dig into the piles and move out materials so our crews could apply water. The scene was brought under control and no one was injured.

Our 2nd Shift crews had their work cut out for them this afternoon when materials at a recycling facility caught fire. Firefighters arrived on scene at Sunoco Recycling on Idlewild Boulevard shortly after 12:40 p.m. to find smoke coming from the rear of the facility.

Each student picked to receive a bike showed the highest growth progress in their STAR score for English Language Arts or iReady Math score. This continues a great program for Chief Jenkins who purchases bikes and presents them at area schools each year.

Tonight our 3rd Shift crews were able to stop a 2-Alarm fire that broke out in a building at Spring Gardens Apartments. Firefighters were called out to the property off of Percival Road shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday.
