I have an amazing young couple who aren’t in to trendy streaming site Instagram churches, moving to Norfolk via Navy. They want a church family with reformed Baptist preaching. They are hopeful but sad to leave. I told them I would ask if anyone knew a great church rec near Norfolk. Thx in advance!

@slsharron @AdamPage85 The two brothers planting it are godly, healthy leaders who love the Word and care about people. They were planted out of our church.

Maturity isn’t pretending the darkness isn’t there. It’s facing it honestly, bringing it into the light, and refusing to let it define or destroy us. If you’re serious about growth, leadership, and walking in integrity as a man—this conversation is for you.share.transistor.fm/s/42619f4e

@mattleeanderson The exercise really helped me think about this! In some ways it relates to over-realized and under-realized eschatology as we think about the church and its mission in the world as well.

@lukedsimmons Do you have any of this written up for you elders to solidify it? If so I’d love to see it. We approach things similarly but need a little more robust of an explainer. So I’d love to see if you have a more developed doc or something g.

Quick thoughts on elders: • Best if more lay than staff • Authority is in the team, not individuals • Must personally shepherd • No elder representatives for ministries • No “yes men,” but support pastor • Fit matters, not just character • Setting direction > approving

@mattleeanderson Wiles doesn’t hint enough at the positive movement forward of the revelation that is present or maybe just not enough of the “shape” of redemption. That is why I like it, plus the aesthetic value is rightly better.

@ColbyGarman I think "enshrouded" might be my favorite proposal so far, if only because it is such a lovely term. But I also love that it uses clothing-imagery. (It's similar to veil, but a more archaic and elegant term, I take it.)

The glory of God is _____________ on the cross. A: veiled? B: revealed? C: hidden? D: other (i.e., supply a superior answer and explain it)? Why?

@mattleeanderson Sorry, I didn’t answer. It is the best word I can think of that avoids denying that there is a measure of the glory of God revealed through the cross while leaving in place the reality that the greatest comprehension of the glory of God will be experienced in the Beatific vision.

Preached on rest this past Sunday, people in metro DC are tired, here are some thoughts: Jesus, Lord of the Sabbath, feeds and restores us. Rest points us to His redeeming work.
