I get the point about the 1300 mm of rain, but the idea that it’s 80% rainfall and 20% environment doesn’t really match how watersheds work. rain is just the water coming in. The condition of the land is what decides how that water behaves. when the forest is still intact, even very heavy rain gets absorbed, slowed down, and held by the soil and the root systems. But once the trees are gone, all of that natural control is lost. water runs off immediately, slopes lose stability, and rivers fill with sediment much faster. so yes, senyar delivered a lot of rain but what turned it into serious floods and landslides was the deforestation. If the landscape had been healthier, the same amount of rain would not have caused this level of damage. In this situation, the environment wasn’t the smaller factor, it was the thing that amplified everything.
