Back in my day, even our cookhouse had rules. If you turned up at the hot plate with dirty hands, wearing Pt kit, no socks, wearing shorts, carrying a weapon, or you had a face full of cam cream (camouflage cream) you were f**ked off back to the block to sort yourself out by the canteen cowboy and if you were lucky enough to dodge the canteen cowboy, then the chef on the hot plate would be doing the f**king off. The only time the rules were dropped was on Op’s, such as Op Banner, when you were collecting your egg banjo from the duty egg op, straight after coming off patrol, at around three in the morning. I keep asking the missus if she will play chef and re-enact making me a full army breakfast. I even offered to buy her the full chefs clobber, hotplate and cookhouse condiments off eBay. I was not messing around; I wanted that full ‘One f**king sausage experience!’ When I asked her if she was up for some early morning egg flipping. @LizaRosen0000 Unfortunately the ugly face of political sectarianism is already practiced in some areas of the country……our politicians need to check its rise before violence becomes overt for political gain. Many decades of sectarian violence were witnessed in Northern Ireland before peace.

@London_W4 The colour tones transport the image backwards in time…..wish we could have stopped time in our country 50years ago…. before its downwards spiral started.

I was sat in a cab at the red light, when I saw this couple sheltering under an umbrella outside the cafe/antiques shop. I loved the timeless feel to the whole scene. It just had a bit of everything in it. So I took a photograph. Then the lights changed and the scene was gone.

@LindsayHoyle_MP I've been interested in and followed politics all my adult life im 75 now and i have never seen the HOCs so bad. MPs on their phones during debate's the standard of dress sorry to say from some of the women MPs is appalling (not all) i hasten to add,the Ungentlemanly behaviour towards each other of other parties. A PM that will not answer directly questions put to him at PMQs, the standards have dropped into the gutter the mother of all parliaments has descended into a shit show,just like the country as a whole.

The Permanent State Has Chosen Its Side If you post the wrong opinion on social media in Britain today, you may receive a knock on the door from the police. If you display the wrong flag at a protest, you risk arrest. If you say the wrong thing about the wrong religion, you may find yourself investigated under hate speech legislation, your employer contacted, your reputation destroyed before any charge is brought. But if you are a Foreign Office civil servant, you can stand for the Iranian national anthem, mingle with officials of a regime that just days earlier had massacred its own people, raise a glass to the Islamic revolution, and face no consequences whatsoever. Because according to the Foreign Office, that is normal. Standard practice. Regularly attended under successive governments. Normal. On February 12, while Foreign Office staff attended an evening reception at the Iranian embassy in London to celebrate the 1979 Islamic revolution, the regime they were toasting had already killed at least 7,000 of its own citizens, including 219 children. Protesters were being shot in the head and neck at close range. The injured were being murdered in hospital by the IRGC. The drains of Tehran were running with blood. Britain's diplomats stood among regime officials as Iran's national anthem played and listened to the ambassador praise Iran's remarkable accomplishments. This is the two tier state laid bare: documented, filmed and released with undisguised delight by Iranian state media. The same state that has plotted over twenty terrorist attacks on British soil in a single year. The same state whose proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, are proscribed organisations in the United Kingdom. The same state whose supreme leader was being mourned in candlelit vigils on British university campuses while administrators looked the other way. Cambridge students face no consequences for honouring Khamenei. Foreign Office officials face no consequences for celebrating his revolution. But a British citizen who questions any of this on social media faces the full machinery of the state. This is what institutional capture looks like from the inside. Not conspiracy. Not drama. Just a permanent civil service that has internalised a worldview in which celebrating a theocratic revolutionary regime is unremarkable, while policing the speech of its own citizens is a priority. The ideology is not hidden. It is normalised. That is precisely what makes it so dangerous. There is one further detail that nobody in Westminster appears to be demanding answers about. Unnamed parliamentary representatives also attended the event. Iranian state media hailed their presence. We do not know who they are. We are not being told. In a functioning democracy, that question would be asked loudly and answered immediately. In Britain in 2026, it is a footnote. Priti Patel called it disgraceful. She is right. But disgraceful does not begin to cover it. This is evidence of a permanent state so thoroughly compromised that it celebrates the enemies of its own people and calls the celebration diplomacy. Any government that wins the next election will walk into this machine. It will smile at them. It will brief against them. It will obstruct, delay and outlast them. That is the real fight that awaits. Not just in Downing Street. In every corridor, every department, every quango and every embassy reception where the permanent state decides, without asking anyone, what British interests look like and whose side Britain is on. @PeterHarry567 @BraisbyI Nepotism alive and well in the Labour Party…….many MPs have close family ties spread over many decades in past and present members of parliament. This is not healthy for democracy.

Today we honour the late PC Mark Kettle, who served as a police dog handler with West Midlands Police from 1995, when he was licensed with his German Shepherd, PD Ash. The pair worked together until Mark left the unit in 2001 to join the Traffic Section, where he served until 2014, when he retired following a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. Sadly, PC Kettle passed away in September, aged 66. Having always been a supporter of the Thin Blue Paw Foundation, his family requested that donations from his funeral be made to the Foundation as a ‘lasting legacy’ to Mark. Over £2,000 was donated in Mark’s memory 🌈 Mark’s wife, Marion, shared these words with us: “Now both handler and dog have earned their wings and completed their last shift. I believe they have been reunited once again. The friendship and bond between Mark and Ash was built on trust, respect and loyalty. Ash was his partner, best friend and a very big part of our family. They faced great danger together, but Mark trusted Ash, and he protected him. Ash taught him so much about life.” We thank PC Kettle and PD Ash for their dedicated service.
