I’ve sold cards on eBay for 18 years. Here are 10 mistakes that keep sellers from profiting in #thehobby. Which one have you seen the most? 👇🏻
English

@DylanDittrich @yanxchick market cap is the value of GameStop’s stock, not the size of its checkbook. They have a lot of cash.
Acquisition = How much cash can GameStop use, how much stock can it issue, how much debt can it raise, and would the target’s shareholders accept that package?
English

eBay's market cap is 4X GameStop's.
eBay has also been performing really well. Its stock is up 54% in the last 12 months (+14% after hours today helps).
So, this is odd.
But there are certainly synergies with a freshly collectibles-focused GameStop.

🚨🚨🚨SCOOP: @ryancohen's GameStop is preparing an offer for eBay that could come as soon as this month. $GME $EBAY wsj.com/business/deals…
English

@darrenrovell They have been slowly pivoting to collectibles. In fiscal 2024, collectibles were 18.8% of net sales. Recently closing stores and leaning more into the collectibles space. eBay is the largest market for collectibles.

@skunkapecards @CardPurchaser Change the settings on your listings to immediate payment. You’re the seller, you set the terms. In this case, your terms were that the buyer does not have to immediately pay.

@Kyle_Wright @CardPurchaser Always in a bubble. Just a matter of how long it lasts.
English

Serious question, what is going on in #TheHobby @CardPurchaser?
I’m seeing card prices increased 25-50% over the past few months. The same Ken Griffey Jr, Josh Allen, Michael Jordan, etc cards that were $300 are now selling for close to a $1000.
Are we in a bubble?
English

All of this happens regularly for profitable card businesses. Cash flow matters.

Hobby things I’ve done that would SHOCK some: - Bought a card at/above comps. - Sold a card below comps. - Bought a card without checking comps. - Sold a card for a loss.

@BarneyPelty @SportsCardRadio Even early 2000’s in person auctions were great!
English

In the spirit of your previous posts, I have spent 40 years building a collection by tapping the inefficiencies in the marketplace manually, in the trenches. Geographical LCS inefficiencies in the 80s. In person auctions in the 80s/90s. Auction only eBay listings in the 90s/00s. Ai and tools like Claude will make the market almost perfectly efficient.

@MercuriusFilius 50% - if it doubles every minute and full at 60 minutes, then with one minute to go it’s half full. Did I get the job?

@parkinglotkings @AshtonEck8 @baseball_cards OP was referring to Heritage Auction house and the history of shill bidding allegations against them. It’s well known in the hobby.
English

Again the account with the most uneducated statements. It is not DCsports doing the shill bidding, it’s either the owner of the card, or someone who owns a different copy trying to bid it up.
Dumb take overall
Baseball Cards@baseball_cards
DC Sports is awesome for the seller. They have been doing the Probstein for a long time. I’d never be a buyer though. Gross.
English

@SpeakEZsports_ Proctor doesn’t fit them. Nick Saban said he had to be motivated by coaches to come to camp in shape. Doubtful it was him. But does look like it was someone.
English

@CollectAmazing @angrytoothpick I do this for fun....I have the luxury of not having to sell ANYTHING. I get to pick whether I want to sell anything to anyone or not
English

@premiercards_2 @angrytoothpick Not trying to offend you here but running a business always involves negotiation on the sales side. Some people just like to feel like they got a deal. Don’t view it as a “Gotcha,” rather understand that cash flow is really important to your card business.
English

@angrytoothpick this is a long answer so I’m gonna put it in two parts. It’s not about the dollars it’s about the culture of requiring a dollar off before you’re comfortable buying something. I would rather see an offer for $15 than $19....
English

@premiercards_2 What’s wrong with that? I’m taking that offer all day every day.
English

@BoxscoreUC @MarcRyanOnAir Good pick. Has starter potential right away.
English

@CollectAmazing @MarcRyanOnAir Dan Campbell says he has a high floor they think he can get to.
English

@BrianAhlin Near Mint = a PSA 7 minimum grade. That said, let the buyer return it and then block them.
English

Just made a sale on eBay and the buyer, after receiving the card, said that they “estimate” that the card would receive an 8 grade therefore I should not have listed it as “near mint or better”. Apparently there was a small mark on the backside of the card (which I did not notice). They now want to return the card or make a claim about it and told me that I need to reevaluate my selling process.
For the record, this card sold for $14. What is everyone’s thoughts?
