May 24 will always take me back to 2022. It was the day of the runoff election. We were focused on turnout, polling places, volunteers, and making sure people had what they needed to cast their ballots. Then voters started walking in and saying the same thing. “There was another shooting.” “We have to do something.” That is how I found out what happened in #Uvalde. Nineteen children and two teachers were murdered at Robb Elementary. Families sent their babies to school that morning and never got to bring them home. I will never forget the grief, the anger, and the urgency of that day. I will never forget people showing up to vote with tears in their eyes because they understood something in that moment. Voting matters. Who we elect matters. What we choose to tolerate matters. Today, I’m sending love to every family who lost someone in Uvalde, to every survivor still carrying that trauma, and to every community that has had to learn the sound of breaking news no one should ever have to hear. These shootings must stop. And we cannot become numb to them.

Today, the Texas Supreme Court unanimously rejected an attempt by Gov. Greg Abbott and AG Paxton to weaponize the court to remove duly elected lawmakers from office. Ken Paxton's vexatious case was not about justice. It was about intimidation, retaliation, and an abuse of power: Governor Abbott and Attorney General Paxton wanted to make an example out of lawmakers who stood against their political agenda. Instead, the Court reminded them that in Texas, power has limits. I swore an oath to protect the Texas Constitution, and I take that responsibility seriously. I will continue serving #HD70 with the same commitment, integrity, and resolve that brought me to this work. Ken Paxton and Greg Abbott lost, but the people of Texas won.
