I like the framework I’ve heard of “can’t, won’t, doesn’t know how” being the reasons for defensive deficiencies.
Effort can be the issue, but physical makeup, execution, and game sense/bball IQ all also can be what causes defensive lapses

Basketball fans really don’t know anything about defense on a large scale tbh. Seen so many posts talking about defense being something that’s simply motor driven when it requires just as much natural talent and the same amount of if not more decision making/processing that offensive playmaking does.

I think it’s probably easy to take it for granted sknce the Spurs just came from an era where that was there whole thing, but this is NOT normal.

People talk about the Spurs luck in the draft, and they do, but the more important luck is the number one prospect of two decades, the guy available to them at 4 in 2024, the 2nd best prospect in 2025, and the guy who wanted to be traded to SA are such high character guys.

This really could have easily been a trap game. Especially for a young team that has had so much success and has really met a lot of their pre-season goals ALREADY.

There may be a disparity in desperation tonight. The Spurs, winners of 20 of their last 22 games, can cruise into securing the 2nd seed. The Heat have lost 4 straight and are at risk of slipping to 10th. Game is in Miami.
