Just wanted to give you all a Tucker update. He had his stitches out a week ago and is doing great. The boys are a little overprotective and afraid to let him resume normal activity, but we’re working on it. Tucker doesn’t mind the extra cuddles. He’s been a real champ and is filling his time helping us deliver signs. He still loves his T-shirt!

Florida, keep a close eye on Invest 91L in the Gulf. It is not a named storm yet, but the National Hurricane Center says it could become a tropical depression over the next couple of days. Parts of our Gulf Coast could see 2 to 4 inches of rain, with isolated totals near 6 inches and dangerous flash flooding. I’ve spent years responding after hurricanes and natural disasters. Build your plan, prepare, and be ready to work your plan if you need to.   Check your supplies, charge your devices, clear drains around your home and make sure the people around you are ready too. Check on your neighbors and friends.   Follow the National Hurricane Center, Florida Division of Emergency Management and your local emergency officials for updates.

Today would have been my mom's birthday. There's not a day that passes that I don't miss her. I would give anything if she could meet the boys. I try to keep her memory alive by telling them stories about how much she loved being a mom and grandma. Every holiday I make her special treats and try to give them to everyone around us. There was never a stranger—she welcomed everyone, and I miss her every day. She was way too young; I’ve outlived her by a couple years. Ovarian cancer is typically thought to strike women much older than in their 40s. It took so much from our family. Please get your exams and understand the signs and symptoms. Cancer sucks.
