The state gave a €54.64 grant for EVERY single person that attended a greyhound meeting in 2022.
For LOI it amounts to approximately €1 per attendee.
One is declining massively and questionable ethically. One rapidly growing and with so much positive societal impact.

To put the LOI crowds into context with greyhounds. In 2022 there were 322,124 attendees at 1,358 meetings. An average crowd of 237 people. In 2023 there will be 800,000 attendees at 360 matches or 2,222 people on average. One gets €17.6m from the state, the other peanuts 😢

Am hearing from a few different sources that The Clock on Thomas Street will shut at the end of this week, which - if true - is terrible news. It's a pub that always seemed to have a very strong sense of community and pride of place. A devastating loss to the city!
