The 2026 Legislative Session has finally come to a close.
This session brought long debates, tough decisions, bipartisan work, and important conversations about the future of our state. From affordability and public safety to water, transportation, education, and economic growth, Colorado Senate Republicans tackled important issues impacting every corner of Colorado.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the process, constituents, advocates, staff, local leaders, and Coloradans who made their voices heard.
As the Capitol lights dim on another session, the work continues back home across Colorado.

On the last day of the 2026 session, Colorado Senate Republicans killed HB26-1054, protecting Coloradans from another bad piece of legislation. Here is a list of the top KILLED bills this session:
SB26 – 097 – Prostitution Bill
HB26 – 1281 – Homicide Criminal Offenses
SB26 – 176 – No Kings Act
SB26 – 043 - Record Keeping & Regulation of Sale of Firearm Barrel
SB26 – 065 – Seed Bill
HB26 – 1221 & 1222 – Tax Bills

The Democrats are back at it again, trying to make major changes to Colorado tax policy in order to pad the government's pockets to support the majority's spending addiction.
HB26-1289 expands government-picked energy subsidies, eliminates important tax exemptions, and raises costs on industries, businesses, and consumers already struggling under Colorado’s affordability crisis. Colorado taxpayers deserve relief, not more political favoritism and higher costs.

Colorado roads rank 47th in the nation. HB-1430 is another dishonest tax-and-spend scheme disguised as “transportation funding.”
Democrats are asking voters to trust them with billions more in redirected revenue while pretending a temporary gas tax reduction somehow offsets the long-term costs to taxpayers. Coloradans need that money to fix our roads, not another pet project for the Democrats.

HB26-1281 is another example of Colorado Democrats trying to “rework” criminal law instead of focusing on stopping crime and protecting victims.
Thankfully, the Senate Republicans killed this reckless bill that would have put pressure on the judicial system and our courts.
HB-1281 would have changed major homicide statutes and created new legal classifications that would add confusion and inconsistency to some of the most serious criminal cases in our justice system.

It is almost 11PM, and the Democrats are dead set on using every last second of this session to make Colorado less affordable. They spent the morning attacking TABOR, trying to steal back tax refunds, and now they are trying to pass HB-1223.
This bill represents a clear tax increase by expanding the sales tax base to include most downloadable software. We will continue to fight against this bill and any bill that makes Colorado less affordable.

Listen as @Sen_John_Carson warns Coloradans that HB-1419 will “claw back” 300 million dollars of YOUR tax refund.

Rather than spend the last few days of the session addressing issues like affordability, the Democrats have decided to go in the opposite direction and continue their attack on TABOR. This time, with HB-1419, a bill that seeks to steal back refunds to which taxpayers are constitutionally entitled. The Democrats are blind to the will of Coloradans and also the warnings of non-partisan staff, who question the legality of trying to claw back taxpayer money with this bill.

Today, the Colorado Senate Republicans killed two bills - HB26-1221 and HB26-1222.
These bills would have raised costs on Colorado businesses, hurt job creators, and made our state even less affordable for working families. Instead of addressing the real economic challenges facing Colorado, Democrats pushed policies that would have driven investment and opportunity out of our state. We will continue to fight for policies that support jobs, affordability, and economic opportunities across the state.

HB-1236 is a Democrat bill that will likely make life more expensive for Coloradans, as is almost always the case with Democrat-led bills.
This bill discourages arbitration, which could lead to expensive litigation that imposes unnecessary burdens on consumers, businesses, and the court system.

Today, the Democrats passed SB-190, an anti-law enforcement bill that requires the public release of footage every time a person dies in a police involved shooting.
While transparency and accountability are important, this bill goes too far and will endanger officers' safety and the integrity of criminal investigations. We support victims’ families while still protecting public transparency and trust in the justice system.

Today, HB-1410 “The Long Bill” was signed into law. @SenKirkmeyer stated, “We fought for the things that matter: healthcare access, better schools, roads and bridges, public safety, competency services, and workforce training. I’m proud of that work. But the truth is this budget still reflects years of one-party control, bloated government, and backward priorities. Colorado families are tightening their belts while the state keeps growing government and asking taxpayers to pick up the tab.”

🚨BAD BILL ALERT🚨SB26-178 grows government under the guise of “healthcare affordability” by creating new fees and authorizing a $100 million loan from Colorado’s unclaimed property trust fund. Coloradans are already struggling with high costs, and this bill adds more bureaucracy instead of real market-based healthcare reform. Republicans believe lowering healthcare costs starts with competition, transparency, and keeping government spending under control.
We shouldn’t use a “finders keepers” system. This unclaimed property fund is filled with things that Coloradans own, NOT the STATE, but the Democrats found it and want to keep it.

These last few weeks of the session, the Democrats have continued to show their disdain for TABOR and the protections it provides for hard-working Coloradans. First, they passed SB-135, which would essentially destroy TABOR and be the largest tax increase in CO history, adding an estimated $7,400 to every taxpayer.
Now, they are trying to pass HB-1419, a bill that seeks to steal taxpayer refunds to which they are constitutionally entitled. The bill passed second reading today and will be on third reading shortly. If passed, this bill would likely face legal challenges, costing the taxpayers more money.
The Democrats have made it clear they want to get rid of TABOR at any cost.

Today, on the 75th National Day of Prayer, we pause to give thanks for the blessings of faith, family, freedom, and the greatest nation on Earth. America was founded on the principle that our rights come from God, not government, and we must never lose sight of that truth.
God bless our families, God bless Colorado, and God bless the United States of America.
