Personal thoughts from a citizen of Ireland. A nation which rose from England’s first overseas colony to become a modern dynamic republic

We all know what @realDonaldTrump meant when he was talking about a merger. Time to unite the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland after 105 years since 26 counties broke away

@Sligodamo32 @paddycosgrave @BarbaraMcMahon8 Churchill was a great war time leader at a time when the British needed a great war time leader. It’s not an national embarrassment to acknowledge that despite what he did in Ireland. We are not the centre of the universe you know.

Sums up modern Fianna Fáil that its current leader cites Winston Churchill as someone he considers a “great war time leader”. Dear god.

Claiming there’s a chance the two corporals were going to the funeral to assassinate someone is offensive, nonsensical, and dangerous. Another attempt to rewrite history and justify the kidnapping, torture and execution of two men. Disgusting post.
BUCHANAN: Dublin Time Machine@RobLooseCannon

Today in 1988, thousands gathered in Milltown Cemetery, Belfast, to bury three members of the Provisional IRA when an unprecedented insane grenade attack occurred. Daniel McCann, Seán Savage, and Mairéad Farrell had been shot dead by the SAS in Gibraltar ten days earlier. An estimated 10,000 mourners, including Sinn Féin leaders Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness, stood in sombre silence as the third coffin was being lowered into the ground. Then, chaos erupted. A grenade exploded, sending shrapnel and marble fragments from nearby headstones flying through the crowd. Moments later gunshots rang out. The attacker was Michael Stone, a loyalist paramilitary and member of the Ulster Defence Association (UDA), who had infiltrated the funeral with the aim of assassinating IRA leadership. As mourners scrambled for cover, Stone fired a Browning 9mm pistol, while throwing additional grenades. In the panic and confusion, 60 people were injured, some struck by bullets, others by shrapnel. As Stone attempted to flee through the cemetery, mourners gave chase. He shot dead three men in the pursuit, Thomas McErlean (20), John Murray (26), and Kevin Brady (30), the latter an IRA volunteer. The crowd eventually caught Stone and began to beat him, only for the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) to intervene, saving his life. He was later sentenced to 30 years in prison, though he was released under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement in 2000. Three days after the cemetery attack, as Kevin Brady's funeral cortège made its way through West Belfast two British Army corporals, Derek Wood and David Howes, bizzarelly drove into the procession. Their motives remain officially unclear, whether it was an attempt at assassination or to spy on the funeral, or less likely a tragic mistake. Regardless, the crowd already on edge from the Milltown attack, dragged the men from their car, stripped and beat them, before executing them in a nearby waste ground.

@FightHypocrisy1 @AlanBro40128420 Why were they driving around west Belfast off duty? Why were they not driving around east Belfast for instance? Where the natives are more friendly, or somewhere like Carrickfergus or Larne? Or even visiting the beautiful Mourne mountains sweeping down to the sea?

@ColonyRepublic @AlanBro40128420 They drove around west Belfast all the time and would have PPWs. Didn’t I tell you to educate yourself? Here you are still making a fool of yourself.

@AlanBro40128420 @FightHypocrisy1 Wouldn’t have made any difference. BTW did British soldiers normally float around republican areas of West Belfast carrying firearms in their spare time? Watching IRA funerals was a hobby was it?

@FightHypocrisy1 It’s a fact the UVF gang responsible could get their hands on devices and explosives for this particular outrage they couldn’t get their hands on for any other “operation” before or since. That’s the fact.

@FightHypocrisy1 I suppose I could google the British official statement where they say there’s no evidence of their involvement in the Dublin Monaghan bombings? But then again I simply don’t believe it.

@ColonyRepublic Well, it does, in that it affects your ability to use a computer. But if that isn’t the case, then is stupidity your block against educating yourself?

@RyanceyReturns Hate to burst your bubble, but It is some other country’s tech, the British developed the Harrier Jump Jet for service in RAF as far back as the 60s. The US even purchased some of them for service in your Marine Corps.

🇺🇸 WAIT — YOU’RE TELLING ME A $100 MILLION STEALTH JET CAN LAND LIKE A HELICOPTER?! 😱🔥 America’s F-35B Lightning II just dropped out of the sky and hovered to a perfect vertical landing — no runway, no joke. Vertical takeoff & landing. Full stealth mode. Built by American hands, flown by United States Marines, and straight-up terrifying to anyone who even thinks about messing with us. This isn’t CGI. This isn’t some other country’s tech. This is pure U.S. dominance redefining air combat while the rest of the world watches in awe. No other nation touches it. Proud to be American yet? Or does this make you want to stand up and cheer even louder? Drop your 🔥 in the comments — let’s hear it for the greatest fighting force the world has ever seen! 💪✈️🇺🇸
