Aussie shares edged lower on Friday, with the #ASX200 slipping 10pts or 0.1% to 8,631. Nine of 11 sectors rose, led by tech (+3.2%), energy and banks, but losses in miners (-2.9%) weighed on the index.

The Aussie market is edging higher by 0.2% following a strong session on Wall Street. 9 of 11 sectors are higher led by tech +3.2%, and financials +1%, while miners and utilities are both falling by -1.8%.

Looking Ahead: In Australia, there are earnings results from QBE and Auckland Airport. In the US, there are industrial production figures for April. #ausecon

Gold futures slipped as investors eyed any outcomes from the Trump-Xi Beijing summit. The futures settled down 0.5% to US$4,685 an ounce. #ausecon

The Aussie sharemarket is expected to open higher, with index futures +0.6%. It follows a strong night on Wall Street, with the S&P 500 +0.8% and Nasdaq +0.9%. It was again driven by tech shares, with the successful IPO of chip designer Cerebrus Systems, closing +68%. #ausecon

Base metal prices were mixed on Thursday. Copper futuresslid 1% on profit taking. Meanwhile, aluminium futures were up 1.4%, continuing their run higher amid supply worries. #ausecon

Oil prices barely budged after about 30 vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz in recent hours, while the semi-official Fars news agency cited a source saying Iran had begun allowing transit for some Chinese vessels. Brent crude futures settled 0.1% higher at US$105.72 a barrel.

Aussie shares edged higher on Thursday, snapping a four-session losing streak. The #ASX200 rose 10pts (+0.1%) to 8,641, with financials (+1%) driving gains despite only 4 of 11 sectors advancing. Tech (-2.2%) lagged.

The #ASX200 index is barely budging in early trade, as declines across 9 of 11 sectors are offsetting gains from miners, as $BHP & $RIO hit fresh record highs for a 3rd straight day.

Looking Ahead: In Australia, there are earnings updates from Xero and GrainCorp. Melbourne Institute inflation expectation figures for May are also released. In the US, Applied Materials is reporting earnings today. There will also be retail sales for April. #ausecon
