Masks of Steel Mondays #4: METF The METF, or Multi-Environment Task Force, is a special intervention and rescue law enforcement agency in the United Isles of Nyter. It was formed in 151, 5th Era, after the model of Tyras Maloko's High Risk Reserve Unit. Its primary goal, like the HRU, was to respond to incidents of airship piracy, hostage situations, and other exceptional events that go beyond the scope of regular law enforcement. In late 5th Era Mamalokat, the age the Western Isles outlaws was on its way out, but still very much a thing, and the age of gangsterism was in its heyday. With such a broad scope of threats, which could take place anywhere from the middle of a desert to a bustling metropolis, the METF had to be prepared for any environment. Thus, mobility is prioritized, even more so than other tactical teams. They use dragons, ground vehicles, helicopters, sometimes even entire airships for some of the larger teams. METF teams also worked in close collaboration with the Dragon Marshalls, tracking and hunting down various outlaw gangs before they could strike again. While today, most METF teams are far more localized to the city they protect, they are often still called to assist in long term ops in the Open Range, mostly to shut down smuggling rings or Marauder packs. Critically, METF is technically a separate organization from the police. Virtually all their members are hand-picked from the best officers available, and they work in close collaboration with the police, but they do not answer to them. They have their own command structure, supply network and internal affairs. This is to sidestep the corruption which is sadly, inherit to many police departments of the UIN, particularly the Mamalokat Police Dept (MKPD). Their slogan is "Custodes des nubium et viatum". Which is Old Augustan for "Guardians of the clouds and roads".
