Despite being recognised as victims of DA in their own right, children are not being treated as such. Glad that govt will strengthen the Victims’ Code for children, inc. delivering my recommendation for a child-specific code so they can understand their rights and get support.

Announcements today on the removal of police officers who commit VAWG offences and stronger mandatory vetting standards look positive. These are measures I have long called for to root out DA perps. Look forward to seeing full detail in the police reform white paper next week.

The Sentencing Act has now become law. Pleased to see parts of the Act, such as a judicial finding of DA, but disappointed that my concerns on recall were not reflected in the final version. Looking forward to working with govt and Probation as these measures are delivered.

Good to see elements of the VAWG strategy targeting perps start to emerge. I've said many times this strategy must be a turning point in our approach to tackling DA, centred around prevention and backed by major funding including for services. Proof will be in the full detail.
