Former Advisor to UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Mark Littlewood supports taxing land instead of work. "If the purpose of tobacco tax is to deter you from smoking... alcohol tax is to deter you from drinking, what's the purpose of income tax? Deter you from working?"

The most influential UBI advocates are generally unanimous that it should be paid as a dividend from public assets — like natural resources and social wealth funds.

In BC, a land value tax could replace - provincial income tax - provincial corporate tax - municipal property tax - speculation & vacancy tax and still leave $10B to fund things like a basic income. We'd have cheaper homes and a more productive economy.

Alberta wants to build up their Heritage Fund to $250-400B by 2050. The right thing to do is pay everyone Alaska-style dividend cheques, for a very simple reason: it creates the missing link between citizens and their rights & duties as stewards of a shared natural inheritance.

LVT fixes this

Think of every citizen as a shareholder in progress. Our taxes funded the labs that built AI. Our data trained the models. When the common good is turned into private profit, the 'investors', the public, are owed their share. Basic income is that dividend.

In the 18th century, common land was seized for private gain. Today, it's a double enclosure: 1️⃣ Private firms profit from public-funded research. 2️⃣ AI is trained on our collective data 'commons.' We aren't asking for a handout; we're asking for our share.

Citygroup vice chairman said we should give 'mandatory equity' so everyone can participate in wealth creation. This is the path to building common wealth in the AI age.

Let's not fool ourselves: all repetitive human work can and will be automated. It's up to us to ensure this gives humans freedom to pursue higher purposes, through AI dividends and shorter workweeks.

Taxation should encourage growth, not vacant lots. Property tax is essentially a "tax on being productive." By switching to a Land Value Tax, we could lower the burden on residents and small businesses while forcing speculators to finally pay their fair share.
