It baffles me and many Victoria educators how @JacintaAllanMP and @BenCarrollMP are failing to address the teaching crisis in Victorian schools. Lowest paid teachers in the country, excessive workloads, meetings each week marketed as Professional Learning. It's not sustainable!
English

@HazleMitch @AEUVictoria @JacintaAllanMP Be nice to have some support for teachers from @AEUVictoria
English

@HazleMitch Yet very little is being done. Especially to retain teachers particularly in Victoria. New EBA in 2025 lots of work to do for @AEUVictoria
English

I found this a very interesting on the teacher shortages in Australia.
"Graduates are shunning teaching degrees, while registered teachers are leaving the profession in unprecedented numbers."

Australian teacher shortages worsen in public schools wsws.org/en/articles/20…
English

@AEUVictoria I find it outrageous that you tweet this, supporting Woolies workers striking but doing next to nothing for Victorian teachers and their pay and conditions. @AEUVictoria
It seems you are supporting every other cause except what your meant to be doing.
English

@blakeseacrestau @AEUfederal @JasonClareMP Spot on. With negotiations for the new agreement supposed to start next year I reckon there are many teachers in Vic who think the union will cave again.
English

@AEUfederal @JasonClareMP What we need is a union who gets an EBA that acquired better than 2% annual pay rises...
English

You're right @JasonClareMP - thanks doesn't cut it.
What teachers really need is to be backed by the Federal Government with full funding for public schools. #auspol
Jason Clare MP@JasonClareMP
Happy World Teachers’ Day. To our teachers across the country, thank you for everything you do. Our thanks will never cut it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have to be said. So today and everyday, thank you.
English

@KosSamaras Not sure if you have spent much time in a school lately. Education in this state is in a crisis. There are no plans to retain teachers, it is virtually impossible to get any $$ for students with additional needs and more and more things are thrown at schools to try and fix.
English

When Jeff was elected as Victoria’s Premier he closed hundreds of schools. Thousands of students, teachers and want to be teachers lives were all suddenly changed forever. The mental health consequences of his actions were massive.
After politics, when he became involved with Beyond Blue, I and many others impacted by the above, still thought that was a good outcome.
He should reflect on that.

English

@HazleMitch @AEUVictoria @JasonClareMP Agreed. Let's not forget @AEUVictoria campaigned hard to get his govt re elected and they have totally dropped the ball on education.
English

@AEUVictoria @JasonClareMP What actual action are you taking apart from a post on social media?
English

@wayout1 @AEUfederal There is no doubt that those outside of education have no idea the extent of the crisis we currently face. Plus it is not getting any better any time soon.
English

@Commonsenselab @AEUfederal Yes, in droves. And it seems the departments, regardless of governmental political stripes are listening. Far too often for decades they have taken short cuts, blamed the teachers, blamed the parents, blamed the economy of the moment, yet failed consistently to address the issues
English

The AEU welcomes the announcement of additional funding of $70.9 million for the recruitment of more teachers into schools. However, today’s announcement has continued the previous Coalition government’s preference for providing funds to Teach For Australia (TFA) to “fast track” people into the teaching profession. #auspol

@wayout1 @AEUfederal Teachers aren't getting re-trained they are just leaving.
English

@Commonsenselab @AEUfederal So why re-train them. The Ed dept has ( always had) the opportunity to extend permanency, which historically they do when it suits them, not the profession ❗️🙈
English

@AEUVictoria @JacintaAllanMP Looking forward to the same sort of fight next year when school teachers are sorting out their EBA. Last EBA was sub par
English

@HazleMitch @MeredithPeace @AEUVictoria It is time we had someone from the union really start advocating for teachers. We are getting left further and further behind and the union appears to be doing nothing.
English

How is it that Victorian politicians get a pay increase and have a huge wage, whilst Victorian teachers and educators get well below inflation? @MeredithPeace @AEUVictoria where are you and why are you not advocating for a ''Cost of living adjustment (COLA) payment. Do better!
English

@r_rm1234 @AEUVictoria Unfortunately I think by the time we get to negotiating the state credit card will be maxed out. Which makes the previous eba even worse.
English

This is the salary increase that I will accept in our teaching eba when it gets negotiated then @AEUVictoria you’re on notice that you need a far, far better deal for your members than the last one we got. We were sold a lie.
Jacinta Allan@JacintaAllanMP
We just gave Victoria's hardworking nurses and midwives a 28.4% pay rise.
English

@HazleMitch @AEUVictoria Surely the question needs to be asked where are the union members fees going?
English

Where is the @AEUVictoria ?
A teacher shortage, a principal shortage and the union seems to have little presence in media advocating for educators. It's disgraceful.
The Age@theage
Owen loved being a principal. But he never wants to set foot in a school again. theage.com.au/national/victo…
English

@HazleMitch @AEUfederal @AEUVictoria She literally has one job - advocating for teachers. Surely that's what members fees should be going towards.
English

@AEUfederal @AEUVictoria Why isn't Meredith Peace talking about the teacher shortage, pay rise for teachers, reducing workloads and meetings, covid measure, increasing leaving entitlements?
Surely that is the role of the union rather than prioritising political statements and views.
English

(1/2)
@AEUVictoria President Meredith Peace is addressing ACTU Congress as part of a panel discussion on the impact of climate change on workers, and our role in addressing the climate crisis.

English

@jdtdobson @BenCarrollMP @SOTLAus It would be much more powerful if his govt funded schools properly so that these programs can be properly implemented.
English

So traffic controllers get 206k, teachers almost half that and nurses get 80k.
Nurses should be on 90-140k.
Teachers 90-140k
Our jobs are dangerous too.
Never enough money for health or education industries. Our liability outweigh a damn traffic controller’s
@AEUVictoria
English

@HazleMitch @BenCarrollMP @mgarymaas They seem to love investing in buildings but not on the people who make those buildings a place of learning.
English

@BenCarrollMP @mgarymaas Shame you are not investing in retaining staff, considering it is "the most important investment".
English

Education is the most important investment we can make in our future.
Thrilled to join @mgarymaas today to announce Lyndhurst Secondary will receive $13.6 million.
In the #EducationState we are all about building stronger communities and a brighter future for all Victorians.

English

@AEUVictoria It has been like this for years but @AEUVictoria keeps backing this terrible govt. It is time that they were held accountable.
English

@AEUVictoria Is this really the biggest issue for Victorian schools at the moment? There is a crisis and it seems we have no support and things seem to be getting no better. Time to hold the vic govt to account.
