Our #ClimateChange and #HeritageAdaptation Conference ended with closing remarks from Mohamed Abdrabo (ARCA) and @CGraves88 (@TheEES), who left our participants with the thought that heritage is a message of hope. Thank you to all the conference speakers and attendees!

In the Pan (Kofyar) on the Jos Plateau #Nigeria, Na’ankwat Kwapnoe-Dakup highlights the impact of a dryer climate on traditional activities. However, intangible heritage practices, like communal ownership, can mitigate these changes. @TheEES #ClimateChange & #HeritageAdaptation

Michael Mallinson explores cattle nomads' movement along the line of rainfall in Sudan both in antiquity and modern times. He notes how cultural sites also mimic this climate pattern, defining where cities were in each historical era. @TheEES #ClimateChange & #HeritageAdaptation

HRH Dana Firas noted the importance of decisions at the highest level of government to create space to engage with people facing #ClimateChange and to use ancient practices to build resilient communities. They aim to impact policy in Jordan, but only possible by working together.

Opening today's last panel, @IALazagabaster introduces the interdisciplinary BEAST Project @LivUni. They use species distribution models with climate data to show the suitability of Northeast Africa throughout time for animal species. @TheEES #ClimateChange & #HeritageAdaptation

@amarna3d presented current 3D mapping and modelling, aiming to create a baseline for future surveys to track the loss and damage at #Amarna. Gemma Tully reinforced the importance of community engagement to ensure the success of any futrue strategies to combat #ClimateChange.

The second panel starts with Njiiri Wallace, discussing the impact of #SeaLevelRise on #maritime heritage in coastal #Kenya. He focused on the annual 4m shoreline retreat along the coastline and adaptation strategies to reduce this. @TheEES #ClimateChange & #HeritageAdaptation

Muftah Ahmed and Ahmed Buzaian present case studies of Wadi Bani Walid and South Derna. They explain their fieldwork to define archaeological sites and how the @EAMENA123 Machine Learning automated change detection (ACD) software can then identify threats due to #ClimateChange.

Ahmed Mahmoud introduces the EAMENA Machine Learning ACD, which can detect area changes of user-defined classifications, e.g. vegetation, via graphs detailing sq km change or visualised maps illustrating these changes over time. @TheEES #ClimateChange and #HeritageAdaptation
