@CormacRussell Often within traditional volunteering structures there's a hierarchy that doesn't exist in horizontal structures of community helping & giving, because of this hierarchy there is also sometimes status that is being sought. It can significantly shift the impact, energy & outcomes

While volunteering is of immense civic value-it’s vital to emphasise that there’s a difference between neighbour-to-neighbour civic action & #volunteering. Hence, the key to collective efficacy isn’t volunteering. It’s community building -of which volunteering/ism is a subset.

@CormacRussell Theres so much in this, giving help is a beautiful thing but often dignity can be lost, the mutuality in communities coming together is the opposite and empowers people & can give a sense of pride to all involved
