The amount of Bitcoin sitting on exchanges is now at levels last seen in 2017, according to data from @Santiment. Why this matters: Coins on exchanges are usually the most liquid, the BTC most likely to be sold. But investors have been doing the opposite. For a while now, BTC has been steadily leaving exchanges and moving into cold storage and institutional custody. A few reasons behind this trend: • Spot Bitcoin ETFs absorbing supply • Growth of institutional custody • The rise of the “not your keys, not your coins” mindset after exchange failures The result? Less liquid Bitcoin on the market. And historically, when exchange supply keeps falling, it often tightens the amount of BTC available to sell during rallies.
