VP SHETTIMA TO LAUNCH FIRST UNIVERSITY PODS IN AFRICA Vice President Kashim Shettima will flag off the first University Innovation Pods in Africa at the University of Lagos on Tuesday April, 7th 2026 An initiative of the United Nations Development Programme in partnership with the Federal Government aims to reconfigure Nigeria’s development architecture to transform universities into engines of innovation and enterprise creation, among other objectives. Deputy Chief of Staff to the President Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia in a press conference at the Presidential Villa says the UNIPOD initiative underscores the Federal Government's commitment to repositioning Nigerian universities as drivers of economic growth, innovation, and enterprise development, addressing the disconnect between formal education and labour market outcomes. State House Correspondent Abdurrahman Jibrila Reports that the initiative is not an infrastructure intervention but a deliberate step towards building a coherent national innovation system that links talent, research, industry, and investment in a more purposeful manner. The rollout will commence with the University of Lagos Artificial Intelligence Pod, with additional UniPods to follow in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Nasarawa, Benue, and Borno States, as Nigeria aims to scale to over Fifty universities nationwide; reach over Five hundred thousand learners with advanced digital and AI skills.

President Tinubu Adjusts Schedule, Postpones Ogun Visit to First Travel to Plateau State President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trip to Iperu, Ogun State, which was set for April 2 to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport. The President will instead travel first to Jos, the capital of Plateau State, to commiserate with the government and people of the state over recent gun attacks that resulted in the loss of lives. Following the visit to Plateau, the President is expected to proceed to Lagos to observe Good Friday. On Saturday, April 4, President Tinubu will travel to Ogun State, where he is scheduled to commission the Gateway International Cargo Airport and inaugurate two commercial aircraft intended for the export and import of goods. He will also inaugurate the new building of the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigerian Customs Service and its operational vehicles. The President will then return to Lagos to continue the Easter break. During this period, he is expected to commission several infrastructure projects executed by the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. These include the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System Building, a Multi-Agency Complex named after the President, and a school complex. Before returning to Abuja, President Tinubu is scheduled to visit Bayelsa State on April 10 to commission some completed projects by Governor Douye Diri. The revised itinerary was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy.
