I dislike talking politics bcuz they're not my best subject, & they make me uncomfortable and depressed. That said, a summation of my beliefs: Trans men are men. Trans women are women. Love is love. Black lives matter. Women deserve bodily autonomy. Hugs not drugs. #FDT

Many leftist movie reviews are closer to the “why wasn’t 9/11 mentioned in Turning Red” video than people would like to admit

twitter unfortunately is not a place for healthy discourse. everyone wants a gotcha moment and to twist what you say into their own negative narrative.

don't limit how you think and talk about cinema to the slang and discourse of the terminally online.

Don’t let someone else’s review dictate your experience. If a movie calls to you, go see it. Your favorite film might be the one everyone else missed.

Why do people assume being negative and condescending in their critique means it’s accurate. Infact it makes me respect it less

it’s very important that you just enjoy and watch your film and ignore all of filmtwt that says it’s overrated and bad

as long as people think they’re critics every time they get mad online about a movie they’re never going to figure out what criticism is or how much work goes into it

“Film Twitter” is still not real, but there was a time when you could discuss films with strangers, all of whom had a shared idea of what they were. There was still grotesque, confounding bullshit, but there was a baseline understanding of “a movie.” That time has passed.

this oscar’s has really demonstrated for me the scale at which complete media illiteracy is currently dominant, and in particular how many adults have taste in culture that is indistinguishable from children

a random pynchon character
Discourse surrounding Perfidia proves that 90 percent of the audience cannot grasp a character written to have any complexity and depth. They need cardboard revolutionaries, not this. It’s a sign of the times when people don’t read or think but only consume and scroll.

People often conflate “I don’t personally enjoy this” with “this is badly written”

One of many things I hate about OBAA discourse is that people reduce it to one aspect they intentionally misinterpret and completely ignore all the funny, wholesome and cool moments. It’s okay to enjoy what is actually in the movie instead of hating it for what isn’t even there.

Ari Aster made short films for years. Quiet, strange ones that made people uncomfortable. He did not soften the edges to get meetings. He did not pitch something safer. Hereditary was his first feature. It premiered at Sundance and changed what people thought horror could be. Your whole advantage is the specificity of 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 vision. Stop diluting what makes your work yours.
